47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

That was the prime midfield performance I was looking for.

Did the tempo control of a #8, and created loads to boot.

But also got the goals we know he can as well, while running and winning the ball in midfield.

That is one of the most complete performances by Phil I have ever seen.

That was peak, footballer of the year Phil Foden. Even ignoring the two wonderful goals, he ran that game for an hour, nobody could get near him and he worked his arse off defensively too. That's the player we need.

He's been called "Stockport Iniesta" for years but this season has been the most Iniesta he's ever looked.

He's playing like a Man who is maturing. I'm so happy for him, because this was his natural trajectory. Last season was an anomaly. He's refined his game, sharpened his composure on the ball and playing like a midfielder in all three phases of the game, what impresses me most is his attitude, proper player man.

Looking back to his old self again, full of confidence and scoring goals again. Whilst he is not quite at the levels of a couple of seasons ago yet, the signs are very encouraging.

He is now our 10th highest goalscorer. The midfielders ahead of him are Colin Bell and Kevin de Bryne - 5 more goals and he will pass KdB's goalscoring numbers in 80-90 less games. That is some company to be in and to be compared with. But what is really good to see is the way his all-round game has become so influential. He is just moving into the prime age bracket for a midfield player - look forward to much more of this. And if England don't want him - that is fine by me.
