The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

The BBC is a shadow of itself. Still dominated by repeats. It makes very little drama these days. Too much crap about gardening, food, travel, and antiques. The comedy is dire. The live football coverage is non existent. The radio output is inferior to Times Radio and LBC. It is still London-centred and the news coverage is very biased…just like their distorted and dishonest coverage of City’s financial saga.

Couldn’t disagree more about the radio output. It’s partly dependent on the presenters but Radio 4 and 5 both have some brilliant stuff on still.

I also vastly prefer 5 lives commentary on football to any other format or rival.

Does anybody think ITV or SKY would cover Last Night of the Proms, the Festival or Remembrance, the Remembrance Day Service from the Cenotaph, Wimbledon and other sporting events free to air? No adverts no nothing? Does anyone listen to TalkTV Radio or LBC's coverage of local arts events or lower or non league football? Yeah coz it doesn't exist. Be careful of what you wish for.

I am not totally au fait with the doctoring that took place but as a state broadcaster they should know better. However, as usual double standards abound in other media outlets and rarely seem to draw criticism. Look at the selective reporting on GB news of the immigration issue, the terrible coverage of the Middle East war by The Daily Mail, the failure of The Daily Telegraph to provide balanced reporting on the Prisons problems. When you also consider the love-in with certain media outlets with Trump one should despair. Much of this coverage is just factually inaccurate but only the BBC appear accountable.

I love the BBC for the institution it has been and for the coverage it has given us over the years. I also think the license fee is incredible value for such events.
However, this latest shit is bloody scandalous.

The BBC is our national broadcaster. And, as such, should be on a different level.

It’s absolutely right people have lost their job over it. Even though the bbc should be held to higher standards, I do find it more than a bit rich from some of the other organisations sticking their boot in at the same time though and I do worry there’s a few in the bbc at board level in particular that really wouldn’t mind it’s demise.

I don't doubt there's a lot of internal politics going on. I also don't doubt that much of MSM is having to adapt to a very fast changing world of communication.
What I don't like though is the BBC seemingly sinking downwards to go with the flow.

Edit.... probably should have said "undercurrent" there ;-)

well said, BBC is the best service by far . such a shame this fucking edit plays right into the hands of Trump and Farage who will be determind to bring it down so we get are news from Gbeebies and Musks social media.
Don't worry, apparently GB news is losing all advertiser's and it's amateurish production values and no viewers mean it will only last a matter of months.....

For me, it's not good value for money, so I choose not to pay the licence fee.
Most of the output doesn't interest me, or I can find it elsewhere for free.
Others may find it good value, and that's fine.
The thing that irks me is if you watch live tv, regardless of where it comes from, you have to pay the fee, and therefore fund the bbc. Something isn't right there.
The threatening letters do make me laugh though, albeit briefly before they go in the fucking bin.

I read the BBC news website every day in depth, and I've definitely noticed a change in stance around certain subjects. For one they have gotten off the trans agenda hobby horse that they were fully onboard with. And two I've certainly noticed a big change in how they report anything to do with Farage, he's reported far more favourably than before.

There's definitely been a change in tone the last couple of months. Haven't a clue if it's anything to do with the Trump Panorama but something's changed editorially.

Whilst I'm not a massive fan of the BBC it stinks of Starmer this.

The way Trump's speech was edited didn't alter the narrative one bit. All they did was edit out the waffle to cut down the length of his speech. He still invited the mob, wound them up and sent them on their way, and we all saw the outcome.

Obviously a couple of big clangers dropped leading to this, but generally we are becoming quite infantile with our news consumption - everyone wanting it to echo their own shitty views like their SM feeds. On the whole BBC news does well until it feels pressure to pander to certain agendas.

Yup.

Be very careful what you wish for.

Martine Croxall would probably disagree.
Although I take the argument her decision to change the word to "women", and her body language didn't help, it's still ridiculous.

Nobody's speech should be edited.
