The Labour Government

Treasury approves a one off £1billion to pay for NHS Redundancies.
Is this for the loss of NHS England, to cut what has been called ‘unnecessary bureaucracy’, by culling managerial and admin jobs?

Looks like the payments will come from current budget as the savings will be realised within the following years.

Labour MPs turning on Starmer and Reeves?

Must be all that right wing social media they are consuming.
As with the tories (who were masters of it), thats another thing i’d make illegal - changing PM mid term save for death or ill health. He won a large majority and should be left to do his thing until we all get to have our say next GE.

Yet some on here would have trusted a party saying they'd cut tax with no means of paying for tax cuts. (And have already "broken" that unrealistic promise - so presumably lied to the electorate about doing it...)
Which again underlines my point. If by some terrible misfortune Farage tells a pack of lies to become PM the option to boot him out quickly when he reneges would be a sign of a very healthy democracy

Timing is strange for me. If they wanted to topple him, surely they would wait until at least the budget and see what fallout comes
If they’re trying to use Streeting to topple Starmer, you’d think they’d tell Streeting of the plan.

Not seen the full detail but looks like a non-story. Some media type ‘asks’ a question and some nothing answer leads to a media frenzy.

Will suit the likes of GB and Sky News, obviously nothing else going on in the world and they’ve got to fill the void inbetween their BBC stories.

Now, now, are you from the BBC? It's not quite as simple as that is it?
I used to work there. Still have friends who do. Nearly 20000 job cuts announced before the redundancy budget was signed off leaving people in limbo for years. Staff have already been told that the redundancy work is being slowed down and I suspect the head office jobs will be merged into DHSC leaving the brunt of the cuts at regional and neighbourhood level. Those folk commission arrange and assure local services. Clinicians will need to take up that slack going forward

You are spectacularly missing the fact it’s number 10 and Starmer loyal MPs who have leaked this against Streeting.

Been on the cards for a while and was originally announced in March; this story is the conclusion of how/where the redundancy costs are being accounted but you wouldn't know that from the somewhat click baity headline.

Not sure of the full detail so if you want to confirm where this all came from then would be interested to understand.

Like I said, when you’re plotting something, surely the person at the centre of the plot would know?

Wasn’t he supposed to be talking about the NHS this morning, I bet that went well.

I don't know the ins and outs, but the way Blackley put it forward was suggesting the money was just conjured up out of thin air which appears not to be the case.

I assume that’s why Streeting was booked for the media rounds this morning. Not sure if he could get the message out as something ‘came up’ last night which was more newsworthy.

Those pesky kids!

BBC Breakfast interview started on NHS, and then went onto the party stuff.

The repeated questions about 'will you ever challenge Starmer' were crass ('ever' is there to set up a hostage for the future, and the whole question is there to get a quote to use). I thought Streeting dealt with it pretty well, and didn't say anything out of turn.

They’ve moved to 3 year settlements (a good thing) and HMT will allow an overspend during that period. The idea is the savings will balance later on but as they’ve talked about slowing down the process until 2027/8 I’m sceptical, especially as primary legislation will be required to get rid of the current system and NHSE has around 500-+ statutory duties to fulfil so can’t just “stop” without someone else picking these duties up.

Thanks for the clarity.
