9 | Erling Haaland - 2025/26

He finishes top scorer of any qualifying competitions across the world. 16 goals, double that of Kane in second place for the European qualifiers, and is higher than anyone else playing in qualifiers that have more games.

Also, it’s a joint record for the European qualifying stage alongside Lewandowski.

It used to be that top, top strikers aimed for 0.5 goals per 90 (with the odd exception like Aguero who made it look easy), Haaland pushed that to 1.0 per 90 before deciding that 1.5 per 90 is achievable. He's still only 25, who'd put money against him going for 2.0 per 90 before he's finished?

If norway didn't have haaland though!!!! No I've not seen that mentioned anywhere either!!!

If Norway didn't have Haaland they'd still be a good team. Sorloth, Nusa, Bobb, Odegaard is still one of the top 10 attacks in international football at the moment. Berge, Ryerson and Ajer are all good players who'd not look out of place in a team finishing 4th-8th in the PL.

I'd say they'd still have qualified without Haaland, maybe through the playoffs, but with him they are a genuine dark horse and it's against the best teams he'll really make the difference.

I'm not a gambler but the best odds at the moment are 40/1 from Sky Bet & PP for Norway to win it, if I was, I'd definitely lump a bet on that.

I'll be watching their games with even more interest than England's.

Comments from Håland after the match against Italy.

After rhe equaliser Mancini tried to grab my ass. So I said

“ what the hell are you doing?”

That fired me up and I got a yellow card. I should not have taken the card but I fired myself up.

Then I turned around to Mancini and said

“Thanks for the motivation, lets fucking have it”

Then I scored two goals and winning 4-1 is a nice feeling. So I said many thanks to him after the match.

I have a werid, completely baseless, gut feeling they'll finish 3rd.

Norway scored four goals on Donnarumma, that must be the first time he lets in that many?
Italy had never lost a home world cup qualifyer until today. Never? wow.
They lost at home to North Macedonia in the 2022 World Cup qualifier play off.

Norway have as good a shot as anyone outside the favourites.

Don't want to put pressure on us or him but having him at the moment is like starting 1-0 up.

3 assists in 20 games is poor for a forward, one part of his game that needs work on

If you watch him play he has decent passing and I would say way better vision than most pundits give him credit for. He is just not that much involved usually - borderline frustrating at times. I think what is holding him back from getting more assists are lack of runners getting into good positions. It is on the counter attack it is most likely to happen so having more counter attacking players on the pitch would help. He had a better ratio for B.Dortmund when it comes to assists (but not by much in total); probably due to more opportunties to counter attack when he was there.
