Elliot Anderson

I am on board the Anderson train. Love what I see.

Some players just jump off the screen when you watch. He is one of those. And the stats back it up.

For me when the 'eye test' and stats are both a 'Yes' I cant be a No. Unless we are overstacked at the position.

The eye test and the stats say YES. And he is English too?

Where is the checkbook :)

Want to be a decent cheque book.
Supposedly looking for £100m plus.
He is a Plus Declan Rice in my opinion. Value that as you want.

I'd see if we can get him under 100. Not for us but for him. You don't want that weight on his shoulder. Especially as a none goal scoring player.

Rice and Calceido have both done it successfully with a high price on their shoulder as non- goal scoring mids. So it is doable.

I hate the price for sure. But i see significant potential here.

Whee is the checkbook :)
He has become my preference over Wharton.

I think Wharton loves to make risky passes forward, but is less clean on the ball and in defending transitions than Anderson.

Perfect Kova/Bernie replacement.

Problem is the fee. You're talking the thick end of £100m for someone who isn't as good a 6 as Nico or Rodri, isn't as good an 8 as Foden, Rodri or Reinders and isn't as good a 10 as Foden or Cherki. So whatever the exact structure of our midfield looks like next season he's unlikely to be better than 3rd option in any role. It just isn't a good use of the money.

At £40m-£50m as a squad player with potential to improve I'd be ok with it, but it won't be that price.

He's a very good player, just not sure we are looking for a CM ,certainly not a £100 mill one.

I don’t really see why we’d buy him when Rodri is 29 and Nico is 23 at the #6 and Reijnders is 27 and Phil 25 at the #8’s/10, which is where Cherki will end up because he’s not a winger.

O’Reilly and Lewis will both end up in midfield long term and replace Kovacic.

Great player just don’t think we need him.

Silly how good this guy is. I'm watching him right now versus the Dippers and he does everything at a high level, pass, carry, dribble, cross, defend 1 v 1, track back...if both Bernardo and Kova leave I'm trying to get him.

Him and Nico would be one hell of a double pivot in the future, but assuming Rodri gets over his fitness/injury issues, there’s not much room for him.

Reijnders and Phil can play as 1 of the 8/10s but the other one has been mostly Bernardo or Kovacic in the past, and both might leave next season.

Lewis should be molded as that 8 as well, but O Reilly is proving how good of a LB he is, that's his best chance to be a world class player.

We definitely need a player like him next season.

Tbh I find this statement baffling. Nothing about Nico doing well at LB is specific to being a left back. He’s playing well there because he’s fast, strong, reads the game well and technically gifted.

The only reason you think he should stay there is it’s the first place he’s started a run of games in a row. It’s like seeing Szobozlai do well at RB for Liverpool and assume he can only play there.

Anyway Nico keeps maintaining he’s a midfielder and Pep said this before the international break so I think it’s moot -

“I admire a lot that he's playing in a position he's never played before. He's learning, he has to improve, but with the ball he's quite good! But his position is attacking midfielder. I'm pretty sure if he played attacking midfielder for every cross he's on the penalty spot.“
