10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

I’m trying to think how many times Cherki will have played a game of that intensity and speed before in his career.

He’s played PSG a few times, obviously, but he wasn’t playing in a Lyon team who’ll have gone toe-to-toe with them, playing at the same or higher soeeed and intensity as them.

He played for France against Spain in a 5-4 game, but he came on as a sub in the second half so he’ll have been fresher than those who’d been on all game.

So Sunday might have been the first game he’s played at that level of intensity and speed in his career. It will be a good lesson for him.

dont get why he occupied the middle every time to leave Nunes completely alone . Foden has to defend on the right side at times because he wouldn’t move fast enough

Might be something in the future but he shouldn't be starting games for us yet, he's someone to use off the bench when opposing players are tired

He doesn’t look fit to me.

I fear he will be player you play at home but is a luxury we can’t afford away. Problem is, I’m not sure we have anything else we can play instead.

If you're going to risk possession, at least make the effort to win the ball back if you're going to give it away.

An attack of Foden, Doku, and Cherki was always going to be a risk away at Newcastle, and all three were on the end of tackles in the first 30 minutes that could have and probably should have been yellows. None were shown.

Thought he did OK personally. Wanted to go forward and created a few openings. Passes round the corner which open up tight defensive.

He's got to toughen up a bit and get used to the physicality of these aggressive, big PL teams and the only way to do that is to play him in these games and expose him to it.

Woeful. Should have been hooked at halftime. Felt it was a strange decision from Pep to play him, we saw against the dippers he isn't up to the pace of the league, you know above anything else, when you go to Newcastle away, you're going to get a frantic scrap from them if nothing else so why is he even starting? That is on Pep. However it's inexcusable to play through an entire game at walking pace.

Who do you start with then? Tejani has been even worse, and there are no other options

He was decent and should have had an assist. Take him out, and our midfield won't create anything

not everything has to be a quick 1-2

when Rodri is fit one of the number 10'a (cherki or foden) is either being dropped or put out wide on the right
