Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

A tough loss to take. We should have scored more, we also gave up too many big chances.

Just not good enough against any decent team away from home.

That being said, the officials were a mess today, how he didn't give us a penalty today I do not know. For me the foul on Foden is absolutely blatant and a huge game changer.
Oh that is being far to lenient.
I accept we were poor today, it could easily have been 2-1 inside 10 minutes (thanks Donna - who I wasn't convinced was a great signing).
The officiating was an UTTER disgrace though. You have:
the penalty - which I've mentioned elsewhere was, mysteriously, never mentioned after the initial review
the inability to control persistent fouling by one team by use of cards
the offside that never was - although we didnt see ANY evidence until well after the VAR decision was made
the card to Bobb for a first foul 10 minutes after he came on.
Did we deserve to win - probably not. But it HAS to be a level playing field and today certainly was NOT

Fucked that up a bit, didn't we! Some shite play there, and we've played right into the narrative that no Haaland no win.

Although it seems Tonali and Joe Linton have some kind of diplomatic immunity to bookings apparently. One yellow between the two on 90 minutes, and I'm not sure how that happens.

The Foden penalty I accepted, he'd already played the ball. Until ten minutes later when he pulls play back ten passes to give a foul. Hmm...
its a foul even if the ball is away otherwise it would be ok to go in late on every tackle. Many similar tackles were penalised for us and them. All in fact except that one.

We can complain about the refereeing all we like but if we’re being honest that just wasn’t good enough. Our midfield went missing in the first half and our central defenders were all over the place.

We had a big opportunity today and weve just handed the initiative straight back to Arsenal.
Toon was playing a 4-5-1 for a good long while. Howe was not going to let us flood MF. That meant the space was wide, and we barely/rarely used it I felt.
