2000 away fans can be enough to kill our atmosphere if they simply don't shut up. It helps that they aren't right under the roof though.

It’s been alright in CL nights in the last three or four years when away fans haven’t had a drum. But the South end of the ground has run its course for me. Even considering the atmospheres that are good, it can often just be a messy din of five different songs being sung by City fans in 010+011, the away fans in 012-104, the away fans in the top tier, City fans in the top tier and City fans in SSL0. Unless the away fans are quiet which makes it easier for our fans to all sing the same song.
It has helped. But Dortmund was appalling after the first few minutes because everybody just gave up. If we had 3000+ singers together singing one song we would have out sung them but we don't. We have a few hundred in several areas all doing different things to each other at the same time. The rest of the ground needs a lead and it needs the right songs.

The lights show only works for big games. There’s been a few times now where they’ve done it and there’s been complete silence from most of the crowd or people aren’t in their seats.
I'm not saying it's 1894's job, however they've got a decent reach amongst the fanbase, as proven by how successful the protests were last year.
