Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Where does Savinho rank out of city players in the Pep era?
Above Phillips…………maybe Nolito…….that’s it. I need the gif of tobey mature in Spider-Man where he sees the guy in the 26 jersey and thinks it’s Mahrez, then puts the glasses on and unfortunately it’s this fucking guy

So Pep, was team selection already planned to give players a rest, or based on the performance v Newcastle ? Would you agree that tonites starting lineup would normally start in a caribou cup match ? What was the thinking behind it and which players do you think played well ?
( press wouldnt dare would they ? )

But here's the thing. Players need a rest, I get that. Rotation is necessary, I get that. I would, at a pinch, have been absolutely ok (well, not thrilled, but ok) with Pep doing this for the next round of the League Cup. But Jesus, you don't change an entire fucking team in the CL when you're seriously aiming for automatic qualification by getting into the top eight. And the argument that “players need minutes” is an even worse one. There are no try-out games in the CL.
No. Really, really stupid, this one. And I recognise that we would not have necessarily won if we'd started with the line-up we finished with (which would still have given four or five players a rest, by the way) — but we sure as hell would have put more pressure on Leverkusen than that holiday for them that the first half represented.
Completely unnecessary given that half of the benched players hardly played during the intl break. Only Haaland, Doku, Gvardiol, Silva and Dias needed rest but not against a team at home before playing Leeds at home.

You’ve got to admire his consistency levels of being seriously shit every time he puts the shirt on

It's so weird that he still gets as much game time. You'd have thought he'd have been given the Kalvin Phillips treatment and kept well away from the side because he's clearly not good enough. Then again, the lack of options perhaps leaves little in the way of choice.

The downgrade in quality attacking threat over recent years is awful.

Where was the energy and fight? We looked so weak and unfit, we didn't fancy the fight at all

Pep's choice of setup and starting line has to be questioned. Can you give games away like this, knowing Real Madrid away is the next game. I don't know what Pep was doing, the only thing is, are we 100% all in with the Premier League and saved players for the weekend ?

Also, so many players starting tonight who are not good enough or finished at City
This squad is far too misshapen and unbalanced; some are far too old and have no legs when asked to play and some are just in the squad because they have a left foot and can play cover

Really weird tactics starting with basically a front four leaving just Nico and Lewis in midfield and Rjinders as a second striker with no inclination to get back behind the ball.

No press and constantly out numbered in the middle….some poor performances tonight but not helped by the very confusing tactics.

Hope it’s not another Feyenoord moment.

Whether Pep fucked the line up tonight or not, the harsh reality is, with the brutal schedule soon coming in, eventually the bench players will have to play. He gave this match a chance to 10 out of 11 players to prove that they can be trusted. And none of them made a point.

Absolute dire line up
Team we would normally put out for league two Carabao cup fixture. Some absolutely terrible performances and no idea why we didn’t sell Savinho.
With Leeds up next literally no idea why we put that team out

Absolutely shite from all involved, no more so than Pep
blame Pep all you like but those players aint good enough

Stones and Ake - finished
Rico Lewis....when will people learn about him!>=? its almost comical now that people think he is good enough
RAN - the worst fullback ive seen since Benjamin Mendy -lazy, no drive, desire or backbone
Sav - sell him now - or just give him away
Reijnders - offers literally nothing
Bobb - aint a wide player...is he good enough to be a 10. - probably not
Cherki - doubts growing over him
Marmoush - doesnt fit in this team if Haaland starts

Rodri coming back doesnt change any of this

Said the same in the match thread. Remember when pep dropped sterling for missing a sitter at burnley? Those were standards. That was even with sterling scoring double figures every seaosn.

Now savinho can fanny around losing the ball and whinging and gets to play 90 mins. Oh and 1 goal in 40 games.
Maybe it’s just a learning curve for the club after so much success? Either way a new mindset is needed to rise again.

This is just tragic.

Notice how leggy Haaland, Foden and Doku are suddenly looking too ? The zip in their play has disappeared.
Haarland and Doku have started most games for club and country so maybe a bit leggier than some-Marmoush Ait Nouri andothers are coming back from injuries and need to get up to speed;not being one to argue with the best manager but cant the two be better managed than tonights bag of shite
