Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Well I do know Greenwood and his accuser/partner are still together and actually have 2 children together but I'm supposed to be all worked up over this?

Of course, because an abused woman has never stayed with her abuser.

I tell you what, I'll send you the transcript in a PM because this is derailing the Guardiola performance thread, and then you can tell me how you'd like a guy who thinks that's fine be the public face of our club.

And he's not even won anything. And he fights with every owner he's worked with. Literally no chance he's even mentioned in the conversation when it's time to replace Pep.

You're ignoring one main point there Dom. Where have I said I want him? Or Maresca. I've made one response in terms of having them here and that is that Italian managers have done bits in the UK in the Prem era. Which they have.

I didn’t reply to you, I replied to someone advocating De Zerbi, by explaining why he’s never gonna be considered for the job. then you jumped in defending Maresca for some unknown reason.

Agree. That was my bad. That's why I "liked" your response to me even tho you were letting me have it a bit. I took a mea culpa but then you wanted to keep pounding me so I figured now I'm going to get my own back up. That's about the extent of it.

He’s 18 months left no way he’ll sign another extension and no way he turns this around in 18 months. It’s time to go and get someone else in fresh ideas may as well start now or at the latest end of may rather than being in this position or worse in 18 months.

What decent players will sign for us not knowing who their manager will be in 18 months cause pep is going
We could be worse with another manager.

Recruitment is and has been poor. The club need to shake off the buy cheap make good players and buy 2/3 world class players in their position. How we go about this is anyone’s guess? seems hard to get the players we want so we buy next in line and unfortunately you will get duds. For every Alvarez you have 2 x sav/lewis type players.

Fix the recruitment and you win games. Tactics comes a distant second if you don’t buy what’s needed especially in a pep system. Football hasn’t moved on, the team had in the past amazing ball possession based players who made it tick.

Anyway, buy shit no matter who is in charge and you will get Inconsistent performances and that means losing games.

The club has become complacent and maybe that’s part of this journey but maybe it could have been avoided.

Yes, because that Leverkusen squad that whacked us last night was a juggernaut loaded with world class players that Pep couldn't possibly compete with considering the shit squad we have. On our own pitch no less. Ya gotta feel for Pep being asked to beat that Leverkusen team with our shit squad. How can any coach be expected to win important matches without having a top 5 player in the world at every position on the pitch. So unfair...

where I am struggling is we still visit likes of Palace, Everton, rags, Spurs, Chelsea, dippers, Bournemouth in PL and Pep pretty much lost all aura to win these type of games.

somehow sides do go into these games vs City with a will to win, outfight us, outfox us, surprise us etc. ad often they do. same as Brighton, Newcastle, Villa outdid us already this season.

Or you’re just impatient and given time we will improve again.
It’s hardly like we’ve dropped into oblivion. We’re 2nd/3rd best team in the country.

We're the most erratic / unpredictable team in the PL.
We've got the weakest squad we've had since the takeover.
The prospects of significant improvement this season are not high. Our current league position is almost totally reliant on Erling Haaland. Maintaining that position is probably 100% reliant on Haaland being fit / available for the remainder of the season.
We're stuck with too many substandard players on long and expensive contracts, most of whom will be near impossible to move on without incurring significant losses.

Pep is stale. Very stale. The club's current recruitment team already has a poor record, and the club hierarchy appears to have little or no succession plan in relation to Pep's impending departure.

All is not rosy by any means.

Personally think this should be his last season with us.
We look badly coached, unfit, half arsed ( most) and cannot win an away game against any decent team, and despite throwing 400 million at it in 2025 with only the Donna signing improving us and that fell into our laps after buying Trafford.
His style of football is looking out dated now with the game about directness, pace and strength. We are easily bullied by most teams

100% get your point but I’d say there is slim to no chance pep stays after his two year extension so we will be looking for a new manager soon enough anyway. If pep was still tearing the PL and CL apart obviously there be no way I’d want change but maybe the summer is the best time to cut ties rather than drag out the inevitable another year

It feels kind of Arsene Wenger-ey to me.

He's obviously still brilliant, but some of the decisions have been head scratchers. You had Leeds and Fulham next week, why would you choose to roll that squad out last night instead of rolling that out vs a very poor Leeds team instead of a team that is 3rd in the Bundesliga and was in a must win game last night?

I don't think the poor recruitment and lack of depth has helped, but he has done himself no favors these past 12 months with some very poor decisions.

Pretty sure they know who they want after Pep!

Defo that. I'm just thinking that's a given especially with Bernardo and Kova on their way out. But yes, get me that type of midfielder.
As an aside, I agree Reijnders is not great defensively regardless of that goal saving block he made in the box tracking back yesterday. But he is an excellent attacking 8. I have no idea why Pep keeps putting in some deeper roles when in reality he's closer to Foden in terms of profile than he is a six...

Reminds me of how he played Gundo in his first few years with us. Thought he was average until Pep played him in his best position, then low and behold, he became world class. It's the one thing about Pep that grinds my gears. Buys people, plays them in the wrong position! Why!!? Just buy people who are class in the position you buy them for.

People think Kompany loves City so so so much so he will join to work under Soriano and weak recrutiment team under Viana. He is loving life in Bayern, zero reason to be here.
If he Vinnie were a real manager, he’d take over Doncaster and bring them up, like Klopp would have.

The squad is solid.. we need to stop solely blaming the players for Peps regression.

Top 3 keeper in the world
Balon D'or midfielder
Top 3 striker in the world
The most coveted CB in Europe when we got him.
The CB next to him has been premier league player of the year.
An attacking midfielder with the same awards plus more
Serie A midfielder of the year
A striker out performing Harry Kane in the Bundesliga last season

Some fucking spine that.
Then add in the copius amount of young talent at the club mixed with plenty of been there done that experience and you've got yourself a squad most managers could ever dream of working with. Couple positions could be improved on/ironed out but this whole it needs constantly overhauling and throwing money at it until it basically works itself out is bollocks.

Pep has essentially rebuilt himself out of his identity. The final nail in that coffin, irrespective of how you rank them as keepers, was Eddie out and Donnarumma in. That football we've seen here before under him will not be seen again.

Goalkeeper being a major part of the press resistance... Gone
The highline get out of jail free card... can't tell where the only option stands in Peps plans...Gone
Ball playing CBs? Teams more than happy to let them have the ball now. Gone
Inverted fullbacks? Gone
Unpressable play dictators in the midfield.. Gone.
Goal scoring wingers? Gone
The ginger ace in the hole... Gone

Pepball.....Gone.. Like put in a rocket and fired into the sun gone.
What's left is imo a superb squad, its just not a Pep squad and I dont see him and his underlying philosophies ever getting a consistent tune out of it. And that's on him and those above..

Ask yourself this, do you dread to think where we'd be without Pep this season?... or is it Haaland?
Him and Rodri have carried Pep in the last few years.. it used to be the case of people would argue we're actually better team without Kev for example.. Because Pep's finely tuned machine would keep moving forward regardless of which cog was taken out. Now you remove one and the whole thing shits itself and falls apart. And it's like he lost his blueprint on how he put it all together.
