The FOC thread.

On the buses, great programme, still being repeated. What a dysfunctional house that was. Lots of people lived that way years ago though.

For some reason the café going fraternity of today think we had it easy, weird take on life and one that needs educating out of them.

I hope you're hubs is fine and gets better soon
Thank you. Two years exactly to the day he was discharged after an 8 hour surgery the week previously. We are getting there, on the 5 year monitoring programme. Got to now have a TAVI at Wythenshawe, just waiting for the date. The irony is that he is physically a lot fitter than before all this, just the accompanying anxiety of wondering does it come back. He's very positive though and I am convinced that us helped us both. Footy and my beloved Blues are a distraction, although massively important to me - see how I am at tines in the match day thread. I've not been to a game since the events at home of 2 years ago so am missing the live action - not quite the same on TV! X

I dislike DWP. I know folk who worked there, infact it's not a bad job, decent salary, pensions, conditions. I know it isn't the staff per se who make the decisions, those are all shaped by 12 year old policy makers in central government ( Whitehall) who have no idea of the realities of life.
I quite like DWP. I don't work for them, never worked for them but I'm on the payroll!

It still makes us laugh. Some really good one liners, especially Arfur about Olive. Who was actually quite glam irl.

Reg Varney was in his 50s portraying Stan in his 30s - did a pretty good job imo.

So, yes if its on and we are having a cuppa we watch and fondly reminisce about the 70s, we were both just into double age figures time it was on and both recall watching it in our respective non dysfunctional households in black and white, then colour a couple of years in. Happy days for us!

Yes Olive, Anna Karen, was an ex stripper and as you say quite a glamorous woman.
I remember watching all those sitcoms as a kid with my sister and mum and dad, first in Hulme and then Wythenshawe. Rewatching them can transport you back to those innocent happy times.

George And Mildred followed on as a spin off, I can still hear the music in my head.

Upstairs Downstairs is my favourite go to series of all time :)

Rising Damp, comedy genius. Steptoe and son, love thy neighbour, later Budgie, the Sweeney and one of my all time favourites Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Upstairs Downstairs especially around 1970/ 71 was wonderful.

I also enjoyed A Family at War.

And I caught the tail end of The Forsyte Saga. Need to read the novels.

Was out and about when George and Mildred/ Robins Nest aired so only caught the odd episode.

Ioved the Doctor series too.

All those programmes were quality for the time.

Yeah I was in Germany when G&M kicked off, but it was fun playing catch up ;-)

Love upstairs downstairs. Can watch it over and over. Some very topical things covered, Titanic sinking, 1st world war, general strike to name 3. And of course LAD.

That’s one of the reason I reckon for the lack of housing, how many women lived on their own, usually they stayed at home until they got married, now they as well as men live alone by the millions, if marriages didn’t break up so much there’d be millions of spare houses.
There are millions of spare houses, but just not where the jobs are. You can buy a whole street in Middlesbrough for £20,000.

I always have a chuckle at the complaint that it’s heat or eat. In the 50s, we never had heating. Most families had one fire in the front room which was never lit before tea time. We all remember frost on the inside of bedrooms.
I was 20 years of age the first time I went into a house with central heating.

Or not being able to afford your £60 family takeaway because mommy hasn't been to Iceland.
