Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

So basically your statement that nobody is blaming him today proves that people are having a pop at him just for the hell of it tonight. Most of the comments you see on here prove nothing other than most of those commenting have a very poor understanding of the game.
Yes ppl are having a pop at him - correct, thats because they dont want to see him in this team. "In your opinion" then most of the comments on here prove nothing - is that really so ? most have a poor understanding of the game. Do they really ? Just out of interest, what is it you think Savinhio brings to this team ?

Some positives in peps post match words. He seems to finally have recognised Reijnders cannot play in central midfield. He specifically says his position is where he played today which is essentially as the 10. Hopefully that puts an end to him trying to force him to be useful further back.

He's also suggested O'reilly might play there in the future, which on paper looks one of the best bets we have to solving our midfield problems at least until January. As long as he remains disciplined and stays next to a Nico and doesnt think he's playing as a 10 i can see him doing well there. A big unit in central midfield that can cover ground and get stuck in sounds good to me.

We won, so how did we give up the lead ?

On the subs, they scored a second, I can see why Stones was brought on, personally wouldn't have taken Doku off for Savinho, but we have to look at the games ahead too.
Easy. At 5.1 we had a 4 goal lead. End of the match we finished within a single goal of Fulham.

4 goals lead to 1 goal (in 30 minutes) is giving up a lead in my book.

Could have been a 5-8 scoreline!

Perhaps this is the game where Pep starts to seriously consider two DMs. We have to get control of the middle when the momentum shifts. It does naturally during a game, but this season I've noticed long periods of the team being stressed and under the pump. A couple of years ago the opposition would have a two/three minute spell of having a go, and we'd quickly administer a slap around the chops. Not anymore.

But a win's a win. Well done fellas.

I’m not sure that game would stand up to any kind of rationale analysis and, in spite of also conceding two against Leeds, ‘still think it was a bit freakish.
That said, the decline in our general levels of control in games seems to have become a real trend. Personnel? System? Bit of both?

Thought O’Reilly looked better in midfield? Maybe just me but heard a Fulham fan on the way say they thought he was top class and I agree. Nunes again was brilliant. We just lack a leader in the centre of the park, Bernie as much as I love him doesn’t have that

Can I say this, I thought Haaland was one of the biggest culprits for losing control of the game. Way more than Savinho who I thought actually kept the ball well on a few occasions and relieved some pressure.

Haaland failed to hold it up pretty much every single time, ball just bounced off him over and over. I know is not easy, but could have done with him holding it a few times or winning some fouls.
I thought he was dreadful after we scored the 5th, then sky gave him motm.

We don’t close down well. It’s one of our problems.
Correct. We certainly dont defend from the front. 2nd half Haaland strutted around like a show pony, Doku and the Savinho constantly gave the ball away with the errors eventually being fatal, the midfield were AWOL, O Reilly breathing through his arse, Dias and Gvardiol getting bullied again and Nunes shitting himself, plus the Keeper flapping at every corner.
Shambles of substitutions both in timing & personnel.
Out of the subs there was only Cherki cleaver enough to gain a margin of control on the game.

I disagree with your first point, agree with your second. And the second kind of clashes with your first, no?
His uncertainty on crosses led to the chaos.

Never seem team score from every half chance like that however.

Traffordmwould have dealt with them better and we would have won the game comfortably.

Took a few days off my life that. Unbelievable the way we flip flop between total control and total chaos!

We are missing the options of Rodders and Kova - they would have been ideal off the bench tonight.

Telling how many positional changes we has to make to accommodate the subs.

Fuck it though, would have taken the 3 points before it started.

Good to see Reijnders score and play well, Foden mint and worked his cock off. Another night the big man has a classy hat-trick. Cherki was class off the bench.
Excellent summary.

Is it the defense? Think it's more midfield where we're stuggling. We're missing the best DM in the world and a very decent on in Kovacic.

I don't think Pep will adjust too much. He has his way of playing and that's it. It's worked for him and us very well over the past decade.

We're essentially trying to replace the best team this league has every seen. It's not perfect, far from it, but we're not doing too badly.

I think we'll be bringing in a DM in January, or at least we should do.
I just mean the team as a whole defensively, everyone has to chip in when it comes to defensive duties.

When we lose possession maybe we need to get into shape and get ourselves hard to break down instead of doing this half arsed press and leaving gaping holes everywhere.

One thing we do need is players to be more committed in challenges as we've too many not prepared to do it.

Even small details such as Foden staying down for over a minute to take the pressure off, dark arts are required at times too.

Nobody is talking about Fulham's goals, except maybe @youngbob about their xG. On most other nights, there is no way most of those go in, it kind felt like the stars aligned for them, except it was too late with what we'd done before hand. I'm not excusing our pathetic defensive set up, but on most other nights, we come away from that 5-1 winners. We need to thank ourselves lucky that we'd got so far ahead. A night to forget, which could end up being a night that help us win another league title......

It's probably just as well that we hacked that last Fulham chance off our goal line right near the end of the game, or there would be some right effing an jeffin on here tonight!
