Peter Barnes a true gentleman

Peter is a top man lives and breathe football Had a few beers with him as we had a mutual friend who sadly passed away so, lost contact with him unfortunately He tells some great stories of his time in football and seems to know all his contemporaries and those of his father’s, most of whom have now passed

I remember being sat at the top of the North Stand
He took on 3,000 and beat them all with a sublime chip
Think it was v Afc
Super Player

Met him at an away game years ago at Watford, when I was sitting with a work colleague who got me a ticket in the home section, just in front of the executive boxes.

I look behind me and there's Peter Barnes in one of the boxes. A quick shout and wave and next thing I know, I'm having a pint with him at half time.

Lovely lad, a good old pro from the days when football was a sport rather than a circus.

One of my favourite players
Did he not chip pat jennings towards the north stand in a 5 nil win against spuds
Think he put him on his arse if my memory is right
Was in the North Stand for that game. It was before the seats went in. To see a young kid jink the master of his profession and sit him down was wondrous to those of us with ambitions to be the next Peter Barnes.

My Dad and his Dad, Ken, were mates and he had Peter come to a charity do at our pub one time. My sister was hot for him! I remember her getting dressed up for him and doing her hair and everything! I thought she was daft, of course! “It’s Peter Barnes yer daft sod! What’s he going to see in you? Yer my sister!!”

They actually looked like they’d have made a good couple now I look at the picture with older eyes!! And, they BOTH turned out all right! ;/)

The seats were definitely in the North Stand when he put Jennings on his arse.
Really? I feel like I was standing near the back of the stand at the time, but my seat was on Row 10 (Thanks Ken!) when they first issued season tickets for seats.

Confused.

Anyway, saw it and LOVED it!

EDIT: I looked it up and I think you’re right! I’m getting old!!

I was lucky to be stood in the score board end when Peter's Dad Ken knocked in three penalties. All a long time ago and I could not say if the feat has been replicated since.
It's only happened once in English top flight football since Ken Barnes did it - Justin Kluivert for Bournemouth against Wolves last season.
