7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

The only thing I can think of is Omar's just back from an injury and he's not being rushed where as Pep is trying anything and everything with Savinho to show the board.. he's just SHIT.

Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense.. when Omar has goals and he's our best presser and that's something you need when you want to at the very least close out games.

But Savinho over Marmoush made absolutely no sense.

Said that for weeks! Omar and Pep must have had words surely and he is on the naughty step?

he was a bright spark in a ordinary season ,just what we needed at the time, and in that way has been a good signing, however his ball control isnt anywhere near good enough, he pulled us out of the shit last season but he needs to improve , i actually cant seeing him here next season, very good player but not for a pep team , as for his pressing, cant say ive ever noticed him being great at it ,right signing at the right time

Wayward ball control is a charge one could level against almost every single attacking player, save perhaps Bobb and Cherki, and our collective press is weak. Guardiola's pursuit of a more open style, however, means that these are less an issue now.

I posted an article earlier in this thread about Marmoush's time at Frankfurt and how the staff there came to realise that he needed to be playing consistently. Nothing has changed.

Don’t think theres a conspiracy here. He’s the understudy for erl and Erl will play every game unless he’s injured or something e can afford to rest him (hasn’t happened much as we’re on a tightrope all the time). He’s not a winger or a midfielder so won’t perform well in those roles.

Shame as I like him and hes got one hell of a strike in him but he doesn’t fit into the team at the moment

No Savinho’s first touch is actually brilliant, it’s the ones after that where it starts to go wrong

Theres no point in playing him/finding a rhythm with him and the current set up etc. only for him to be off to AFCON for however long, he’ll know the deal.

Suspect he’d be in the team if not.

That’s why I didn’t distinguish first touch. That said, he’s nowhere near as bad as some on here insist.
definitely got the natural ability to be a top winger. However, at the moment he’s pretty infuriating. I don’t think the attitude he appears to display does him any favours either with most fans

I've never yet known a winger display consistency and so they're all infuriating; it rather goes with the position. Savinho is also adapting to playing with a different fullback this season and also a different style. Last season, we were still in the death throes of the old system, with wingers having to turn back and recycle possession to our ageing midfield. Now, they're being encouraged to attack, but that won't always come off.

The only trait I dislike is his tendency to stop when pulled back, with the expectation he will receive a foul, which is not always awarded. However, that is no different really from Grealish and Doku, the only difference being that their default position is to hit the deck and then appeal.

Guardiola made a good point about journalists (and fans) demanding immediate gratification, and managers having to ignore the inevitable hysteria surrounding a defeat or 'poor' performance, even winning away 4-5. With so many youngsters in our squad, I think it's better to accept that they're learning and will improve and not spend too much time fretting about the froth of 'fans'.

Part of it as lack of gametime and his form, and the other part is just poor sub option from Pep.

He is Haalands backup, yet we lump the ball up to him like he is Haaland and has a chance to win it.

He is not as fast as Haaland or as strong, he needs passes played through on the ground.

He would have looked better in Dokus role.

Thought he made some really good runs today. Things will click.
I do, too, but when? or how is the better question?

As long as Haaland is fit, he'll start, and even when he's poor, Pep still doesn't take him off more times than not. I don't see how he remains happy with his minutes given the circumstances. I hope I'm wrong.
