Sunderland (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Much better all around performance today....

Pep knows his best 11 at the moment and there isnt a lot of potential deviation from it.

Cherki besides the obvuous skill showing that he can control the pace of a game and that is evem more important than the undoubted skill he has.

Foden is pivotal - again undoubted skill but his ball retention is excellent under pressure anywhere on the pitch and he is best close to the box as he is a great finisher as well

Nico G and Bernardo work so hard and Nico G is starting to look more and more like Rodri minus slightly the physical presence

Doku was very positive as always

Great save from Donarumma in the second half - at a very key moment. What was Dias thinking? Also the pass by Donarumma in the first half to Nico G in his own penalty box and clearly under pressure....no sense in it...We still tried to shoot ourselves in the foot several times and if we can cut that out and get Rodri back we will be even more competative.

expected more from Sunderland..thought they might turn up and actually give it a go but they sat back for large parts of the game which was surprising,

the girl interviewing cherki - slow down love hes got broken english

the two main talking points during the second half listening to the commentary

1. Sunderland are amazing

Great feeling today. Same issues are still there but some real positives today. Cherki is something else. Donna did his job when needed.

The sort of match where finally everyone connected to the club can see the full arrival of Rayan Cherki - how many times in recent seasons have teams defended deep and we are left to moan about how we cannot break them down and get vital goals despite having 70% possession. Cherki is the one player in the new squad that can create from nothing in tight spaces and we must now find the best system to keep him in the side. Forget the outrageous assist the chance he created for Erling (should have scored) was other worldly.

A good team performance against a top half side who were playing with confidence.

Same for midweek please Pep.

Good professional win.

Subs came on for the waning energy but also made it clear why they are subs.

But the 5 forward players: Haaland, Foden, Doku, Cherki, Bernie are so obviously the starters compared to their backup 5.

Savinho final pass and dribble is just lazy, lacking form, whatever it is, needs to improve.

Reijnders still not it for me, lazy finish (even if ballll bounced), needs to up his game.

Lewis looked fine for Silva and I wouldn't mind him there more often, he doesnt lose the ball and has the 360 spin and low centre to get out of challenges.

Marmoush... tried i guess. I still hate him as Haalands backup, we lump it up to him as if he was Haaland, just seems stupid imo, should have been in place for Doku.

Bobb didn't get on so we dont know.
Yeah that’s what I’m saying , 3i atlas is not a comet

Isak as well

Right, er that was Manchester City wasn’t it?
Two goals in the first half, managed the game pretty well second half adding a third goal, substituted three players at 70 mins who will be important in the UCL next week, further subs near the end and a clean sheet.
I thought we were supposed to be ‘not good enough’.
Thoroughly professional all round.
Most enjoyable.
Pep out!!!
PS. Cherki proves our recruitment is rubbish!

Well that was a relief, I've just seen Phils goal following the Cherki assist. Wow.

Same GD as Arseanal now. And we have to play them here.

I was looking at the Xmas New Year Pl fixtures.

Arse, Dips, Rags and Chavs all have 2 home games during that spell. And it's meant to be random and fair. My Ar£e. Fixed and corrupt.

I really think Donnarumma is making a difference this season. He only got called upon once today and he did his job. We have lost Ederson's distribution but every time Ederson was called upon last season, we conceded.
