They actually had the first chance after Donnarumma had flapped at a corner. Similar to Fulham's 4th, but they hit the side netting

The big difference between today and the last couple of games was the 3rd goal coming when it did.
 
Excellent performance that against a very good organised team.
Take a bow Cherki.
I saw glimpses of David Silva in him today.
Defence splitting passes and most importantly the way he controlled the tempo of the game.
He was even telling other players when to calm it down.
We saw similar when he came on against Fulham.
Glimpses before anyone has a pissy fit.
Foden great again as was quite a few others.
It was also great to see us come out for the second half on time and looking ready.
I think it showed in our second half performance.

Really enjoyable performance..we were slow at moving the ball for a while but once we got going it was great.
Big save from the Don..The assist from Cherki was amazing.
Some great performances from our players including NOR Nunes Nico G. Cherki and Phil.
Thought Bernie ran his bollocks off and was very good too.
We looked much more solid in defence too.
A great result against a decent team..made more enjoyable because Bridesmaids FC lost
 
Cherki is a difference maker and we so need that in our team. Overall a very solid, dominant performance against a resolute Sunderland who performed well enough. No scares today thankfully mainly due to Donnarumma and the post but that third goal was a thing of beauty.
 
Solid team performance today and another big 3 pts and a clean sheet !
Defensively we still have lots of issues though!

Sunderland hald their moments, but it was a much more assured and controlled perform overall.

Haaland's form has dipped since the international break. With other players now stepping up and contributing goals, it hasn't been as costly as it might have been a month ago when he was the only real goal threat. Foden in particular has been brilliant recently.

Nico González is maybe playing too many minutes. Looked a little tired in terms of duels/physicality. No real alternative to him at the moment.
 
I thought we were a little poor before the ‘don’t shoot Ruben’ moment. I really liked Phil and Cherki in midfield and I think Phil is better and more influential than ever before. Ryan still does daft stuff - he tried a back heel flick right in front of us and lost the ball but I guess if Pep tries to stamp that out we wouldn’t get a Rabona assist which was worth the trip on its own. I thought Sunderland were poor. Probably the worst I have seen at the Etihad this season. Thought the defence was better save the odd brain fart. O’Reilly stood out. Atmosphere was good and results fell for us. A really good afternoon.
 
Really good three points as I thought Sunderland, being a strong physical team, would cause us a few problems. In the end it was a game that we more or less controlled from start to finish. We took our time to properly get up and running, there was a fair bit of slow side to side stuff until Dias got bored and shot at goal, and what a strike it was.
There must have been something in the rain soaked air this afternoon for us to score from a corner, a nice header by Gvardiol.
The Cherki assist for the third will be cut and pasted endless times I imagine, what a game he had, he certainly is exciting to watch.
It was a good team performance, I am sure midweek will be tougher but it feels good to be going into that game after a strong performance.
 
Interesting but not surprising that the match day thread was only 65 pages.

You wouldn’t need to know the result to know that we had won very handily just from that information.

There’s going to be a lot of very angry and frustrated posters on here come may as we lift yet another title.

One rule I’ve learned under Pep…gotta give these players time. Sane took a year. Rodri took a year. Nico was thrown into the fire and it was tough from January to May. But I’ve really enjoyed his play this season
