Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

It is mad. I stayed and clapped the team off and got the train home from Ashburys… loads of people around me clearly been stood there ages and had no idea about Sunderland’s red card
Exactly! Leave the ground early to go and wait for a train. When you could just leave after the final whistle and make the same train.

You’re not allowed to criticise or tell people what to do with their lives or they’ll get upset, but they’re a big reason why the away end can sing, “Your support is fucking shit”.

It’s more likely getting a tram why people leave early. The queues are extremely long if you wait to the end, even the fast track line. You certainly won’t be getting the same tram as the early leavers.

I really don’t get it. Where do all these people have to be? Near me, It doesn’t matter what the game is or how big the game is, they all leave at 83 minutes on the dot.

I see quite a few of them sat on the bus waiting to leave after the game. It’s bizarre and makes me think they go out of habit.

I too just don't understand it.

We stay to applaud the team, sometimes we are the only 2 in the section.

Often the same for KO and after half time. We live hours away so 30 minutes doesn't make a difference, these guys must either be on a promise, or their wives have a big rolling pin.:)

Like you say a habit

Like I say I know the transport links can be shite but the amount of empty seats 80 mins onwards was a gift to rival fans who love to kick us for it.

That beautiful Cherki assist to Foden will be shadowed by comments of empty seats everywhere, which i found mad how we can have such big pockets of them. Not all the fans fault that though, ticket transfer restrictions has put any final nail in the coffin for empty seats / decent atmosphere against any team that’s not classed as a big team

I thought the atmosphere was better today tbh. Full marks to Sunderland fans though, they were consistently loud. We used to sing like that when we were shit.

I go to alot of away games, but have yet to find these utopia transport links. Which are these grounds?

I do not know why, or the answer, but I don't accept the excuses I constantly read on Bluemoon.

The truth is people aren't worried by the perception and are not motivated by being part of a special atmosphere.

And it is their choice, and shouldn't be criticised.

I have been at games in the past where City fans have created atmospheres to last a lifetime, just not for a long time

Apart from the immediate getaway from the ground, no it's not a bad place to get away from, it's just excuses. The unfortunate truth is that people get into habits.

A bloke on my row would leave on 85 minutes for years because he went with his elderly mother, and wanted to get her away before it got too crowded. Completely fair enough.

Anyway she stopped going last year, and wouldn't you know it, the bloke still leaves on 85!

Perhaps. The example I have though, is those people getting the buses outside the ground - supporters bus. I’ve got on that same bus after the final whistle no issue.

The same bus sits there for about 20 minutes after the games finished as well. They aren’t getting home any earlier, or not getting a seat.

I agree on the trams. There a waste of time - I usually walk back into town now

85mins it means he missed 14 minutes last week.
We're both 66, Mrs. asa and I, yet walk to Piccadilly, overtaking many of much younger people. Is it modern life where people need to park at the supermarket, or pub or school and nobody walks anywhere?.
Next season with the new City square, people will have the opportunity to get a drink wait for an hour, even if they do not have corporate, but I doubt it will make a difference.

Absolutely mediocre again , but come to expect nothing else nowadays. Don't think it helps that yet again players coming out onto the pitch to a half empty south stand which is meant to be our loudest, proudest area, but can't be arsed to get in the ground before the game actually starts
Probably because it took an exceptionally long time to get in today. Just 2 people on M2 today and both showing similar urgency to their keeper taking goalkicks before our opener. Took nearly 20 minutes to get in and I joined a queue that really wasnt that big at all.

And yet some on here blame the shit atmosphere but the elephant in the room...
Its not the acoustics, its not the tourists, its not that the ticket prices are too high, its your average Joe Bloggs who doesn't sing, fucks off early etc

As for SSL1. When you have a really good bar, and bar area, plenty of seating, a DJ spinning the tunes, there is no need to get to your seat for kick off, or for the start of the 2nd half.

Then why would you buy a ticket then ?
P.S the DJ is fucking SHIT !

You go and ask the 1000’s City fans who use the bar before the match and during half-time.

Considering there was nothing there but a huge unused void before the new bar was created, the new bar, whether YOU like it or not is a huge attraction and success.

I don’t think City give a shit if the fans are at their seats for kick off or not. The bar is making loads of money.

I always walk/run back to town, but whereas tonight I was fit enough to catch the 17:21, I had no chance last weekend (after 10 minutes of added time,) and had to settle for the 17:51

Allowing for 23 minutes for the actual journey plus another 20+ minutes to walk home, I was probably opening my front door around 6:05pm (6:35pm last weekend.)
The final destination is Buxton so you can add 30 minutes travelling time for those passengers

Despite making my train with a few minutes to spare, it was noticeable just how many supporters were already on it,

These people must have left at least 10 minutes before the end, to either walk, or catch a ridiculously early tram.

Not sure how that ever gets resolved without a quicker tram service that guarantees arriving at Piccadilly within 20 minutes of the Final Whistle

However I'm not convinced that this has got anything to do with today's atmosphere
