James McAtee joins Forest for an overall fee of £30m

His overall game didn’t appear to be up to City standards but he’s got an eye for goal and that’s the most important part of the game.

I know Pep sees him every day in training so will be a far better judge than any of us but I would have liked to have seen him in a run of games. Especially when we were short of players last season.

Good luck to him and fair play to him coming back last season and giving it another go rather than moving in last summer.

I bet he scores against us in the future.

Forest get a bargain.

good luck to him. couple years ago we had very high hopes for Lavia, Palmer, Delap, Mcatee, well life made them move on but credit to the academy finding them and developing them as without that they woudnt have come close to being decent PL players and they still very young with more potential. bit sad how Chelsea can benefit from them the most but thats how it is. would be odd feeling a bit see them winning the PL (or CL) instead to be fair albeit rather them than Arse or dippers or rags unless we can do it.

I can see McAtee impress at Forest but maybe under a new manager later on, as their current style is rather hard, too defensive. also I assume there is a better buyout clause for Gibbs White for next summer, when he leaves can open up even more chance for McAtee.

Better for Forest.

I’d kept an eye at the beginning of the season as quite liked him and was hoping he’d do the business there. Shame. I agree a move abroad might suit him best

The turmoil at Forest can't have helped him. But he doesn't seem to have grasped the opportunity, unlike at Sheffield United(granted, that was in the Championship, against inferior opposition).
By all accounts he didn’t grasp it there either, or his chance at City. Maybe he’s just not that good.

I always thought that was his level. He never 'kicked on' after returning from Sheffield. He's definitely not as good as he obviouly thought he was. Getting £30m for him shows how naive Forest are as a club.

Or its the Man City academy premium!
Look at the players that have emerged from our academy in the last few years

I remember City battering United in both legs of the 1986 Youth Cup Final.
However I don't recall anyone predicting that the lanky, awkward, clumsy right winger, would be the first to play for England

Similarly, England's set- piece specialist at the 2018 World Cup (even scoring in the Semi Final) was stood on the halfway line when Wladimir Weiss scored from a Free Kick at the Etihad in the 2008 Youth Final.

Kieran Trippier's problem was that we already had Micah Richards and were about to buy Zabaleta.

It was the same with McAtee, Palmer and Rogers, all of whom starred in the 2020 Youth team, but took different routes to where they are now.

In the meantime City won 4 consecutive PL titles.

I still believe that McAtee should have gone to a Leicester/Southampton type of team that try to play good football rather than Sheffield United and their prehistoric style under Heckingbottom

It's a strange one. You have Palmer, Delap ( and Lavia and Gittens at Chelsea), Harwood Bellis at Southampton, Forbs at Bruges for example getting game time, then you have Max Alleyne at Watford, Simpson Pusel at Celtic and quite a few others who you think ' why the hell did you buy them (or accept a loan) in the first place when you don't play the style to use them?'

I wonder whether some of these clubs have the owner or DOF signing players that the manager doesn't want. James certainly needs to step up from Championship side to Premier League standard, but he won't do it sat on his arse. Maybe he went there thinking Gibbs White was off? Hasn't a prayer under the Fisherman's Friend model.

He did play in Europe the other week.
