President Trump

Yes, the differences between how the media acts and what they cover are fairly distinct between the US and the UK. That said, the “partisanship” aspects have widened and fragmented as the key outlets (broadcast networks, major periodicals) have lost market share and been replaced with thousands of niche, fringe sources of information, credible or no. I don’t believe a “breakdown in trust” between politicians and people has anything to do with it — people have NEVER “trusted” politicians as a class from time immemorial. It’s not new. Nearly any reading of history in nearly any context will tell you this. Were this true, there would be successful third parties, more independents with more influence in the states. There are effectively none save Sanders, and all must caucus with established parties anyhow. It is specifically Trump himself and how he has exploited and expanded that “always there” mistrust (which by the way is what Schwarzenegger did in California and Jesse Ventura in Minnesota — and both were highly-effective governors) that is what has brought us here — enabled by the GOP’s shocking moral cowardice in the face of Trump. Mitt Romney, John McCain, Jeb Bush — no establishment Republican would ever have done what Trump has done, nor would any establishment Democrat. People need to stop looking for root causes beyond that banal evil of the man — it’s fundamental.
Brilliant post.

Reminds me of the Ballon do'r award that RM expected should only go to RM players.

I suppose it says more about Pres Trump accepting his Trump peace trophy than UEFA awarding it.
We learned nothing about the man child seeking affirmation…because being POTUS (twice!) and a billionaire pedophile isn’t affirmation enough!!

BOOM!!

It’s not at all surprising. The presidential pardon is the power that is most open to abuse because it provides an unchecked means to override decisions that have been arrived at separately by the system of justice. It’s an incredible, almost god-like power to be able to exercise. Just being able to release convicted criminals at will is surely the area of the US constitution where the fabled check and balances are at their weakest.

Why wouldn’t a man who tried to start an insurrection because he lost an election that he tried to steal, who then went on to win another election four years later, use that incredible power irresponsibly without any regard to the wider consequences simply because he could?

This is precisely the type of thing he was going to do if re-elected. I’m genuinely struggling to see how anyone can be remotely surprised by this course of conduct, which will, inevitably, continue.

It will make him feel powerful, vengeful and give him a sense of vindication for personal injustices that he has constructed in his own mind.

I see he is speaking of Democratic lawmakers as seditious and deserving of the death penalty.
They have alerted the police to his posts on Truth Social.
