Crystal Palace (A) I PL I Post Match Thread

After a first half to forget we eventually got hold of the game when Palace started to tire. If they had had a decent striker they could have been 2 or 3 up by then.
Credit to our back line for some spirited defending to keep them out at 1 nil.
When Foden and Cherki started to purr it was a different story, Fodens wand of a left peg eventually giving us some breathing space after his peach of a shot.
All in all, a good day for our attack and defence.

i agree Nico held the ball for far too long consequently getting picked off, wharton looked head and shoulders better i'm afraid
could do worse than getting him in
Wasn't on his own. Ruben played a 10yrd pass right to them in middle outside area that on many occasions would have led to conceding a goal.

More positives than negatives obviously, but most of us can still see enough areas where we can improve. Gonzo is and never will be rodri, who is, but if he gets his head up could be a good 2nd best.
Best bit for me was erling tapping up Wharton going off at half time, thought the contract and pen was pushing it a bit tho'.

For all their chances in the first half did Palace have a shot on target.
Could have forgot one but that Donnarumma palm out for a corner when 2 up was their first real shot on target.
Palace almost scored immediately after City did, Don with a good save at his right near post, and made one too at his left front post earlier in the first half.

The MoTD commentator said what you said, I thought he must only see the clips and Don was the best player first half for us.

After a first half to forget

You're telling me! Just catching up with the match. Jesus, that first half is like having your teeth pulled, one by one.
Arguably our worst forty-five minutes of the season? The case can be made. Second balls being constantly lost (when contested), stray passes all over the place (looking at you Phil, although not the only one), utterly toothless in threatening them.
Having said that: what can you say that is kind about Palace? As at Wembley, they offered almost nothing. Yes, well drilled. Yes, well organised. Wharton their most skilful player, by some distance, trying to make things happen from time to time. It is astonishing to me, still, after all these years, to watch a team on their own ground sit in and apparently look perfectly happy to get a point (and maybe nick a goal on the break if one comes along, you never know!). For all the world as it they're playing away. How can their fans stand it?
Dire, from both sides. Well, we won, and against an apparently in-form side. Only assessing the first half, mind. On to the second, where hopefully I'll see some football.

Watched the highlights again. As usual enjoyed seeing close-ups of the crowd with the opposition fans throwing their hands up in dismay or mouthing "oh, f***" when City score.
Some good shots of City's supporters celebrating, too. Think it'd be a grand idea for the MCFC website to bring back the feature the M.E.N/Football Pink used to have where they'd put a circle round the face of a few people in the crowd before a match and offer a prize if you were one of the ugly buggers that got picked. Would have to do better than the old one guinea though.
The invisible man would win every week with the muen circling empty seats

Ffs, a great run by Savinho, and still people hoping g he would have missed it if Dirty Henderson hadn't brought him down.

Its an issue when "fans" are so anti a player, they are desperate the player won't improve, or become the player Pep can see, as it would make them look Silly.

Again.......
He was bloody rapid, just wish he would run like that more often.

It was virtually impossible to tell from every camera angle except the one shown on the City channel from the stand behind the goal (so most people haven't seen it), but the dig in the ribs he got right at the very start, at the kick off, was actually very deliberate and went unseen and therefore unpunished. Had that been spotted they would have been down to 10 men for the entire match, but more importantly it's proof that they deliberately set out to target him.
Yeah I'm not one for conspiracies normally - but that was such a deliberate attempt to 'do' him. I bet he carried that , winded , bruised or cracked rib.. made his second knock hard to ride..hence the horrific injury - not once mentioned in the 'meeja'. A rare Ballon d'Or winner playing in the premier league getting deliberately 'knobbled' The prem lost the best player in the world and not a peep from the meeja cnts.. it really is sickening how our club is treated especially when others have twisted rules as well (int free loans etc)

I'm not sure Savinho even looked towards the goal when he went on that run - I wouldn't have backed him to score & think Henderson did him a favour.
To be honest that was the feeling I got too as Savinho approached the penalty area .... when Haaland is advancing on a keeper at pace, he usually just smashes it straight past him, but Savinho never really looked confident enough to do that .... I think he was just hoping that the keeper would make contact as he attempted to round him, and he did.

Meh not sure as the had a guy covering the line.
Who was this imaginary man covering the line? Was it one of those he burned past and left for dead on the half way line? If Henderson doesn't bring him down, he's slotting it into an empty net, only chance he doesn't score is if he somehow missed the target from an open net. Even his biggest haters would be finding it difficult to suggest that would likely happen.

Can't see that at all.
Haaland missed his last 2 attempts to go round the keeper.
He was well past Henderson and was deliberately taken down. It was one of Savinho's better moments all season and posters are still critical.
