Labour’s employment rights bill will finally become law after a battle in the House of Lords, paving the way for significant new rights for workers on sick pay, parental leave and zero-hours contracts.
Expected to be given Royal Assent tomorrow.

Not all legislation. But a lot of the current legislation does not take account of the huge changes in life so will have to be redrafted or scrapped. We are already struggling to cope with the growth of digitisation in society. Shutting the stable door after the social media horse has bolted. The AI revolution is a much bigger change than the Internet. The entire Government structure and process is asleep at the wheel. Other countries, especially in the East, have left us behind.

Hands up - All those that won't be suprised, when.

*Ending fire-and-rehire improves morale and retention
*Decent pay reduces recruitment crises
*Job security reduces staff turnover
*Workers have more spending power
*Good employers compete on innovation, not exploitation.
*Stable contracts lead to higher productivity
*Fewer people rely on in-work benefits subsidised by taxpayers
*Moving abroad” remains a empty threat mostly used by firms already avoiding tax
*Businesses that plan long-term adapt -as they always have
 
Even when good things happen, certain people will find a negative.

Inflation down, and most probably interest rates - good.
Wage rises well above inflation - good.
Workers rise for the majority of the country who are not rich - good.
Huge investment into social policies and housing incentives - good.

I could go on but some will only find fault. Regardless of party, if they’re doing something that benefits the majority of the country, which these policies do, I’m very much up for that.

I "considered" buying a Rolls Royce. I couldn't afford it so it didn't happen. Don't forget many pensioners are benefits claimants.

My stepson was on ZHC. Just before Christmas 2 years ago, the company told him no work until April. He booked an extended trip to the Far East. The company were really annoyed when they changed their mind a few days later to find he was no longer available to work early in the New Year.

Taking the piss and removing workers rights is a cunts trick.
If a business wants to have the workers working for peanuts with no right to sick pay, no guaranteed hours and no maternity leave then let them fuck off abroad and use some other poor saps to carry out their slave labour.
 
Day one sick pay..... But don't worry, it'll increase productivity.... Bollocks.....

Part of the reason the NHS is fucked is because it rewards piss takers with wishy washy HR policies that mean it's virtually impossible to get sacked... This sounds like it'll mean more of the same.

I was reading the comments on the FT website about this. You could tell they were written by employers who see people as a resource rather than human.

Lots of empty threats about closing their businesses because they've been "shackled by the party of the unions"

It's a good thing. As for forty years the system has been skewed too far the other way. It could be a lot better though.

Labour very much remind me of City. Whatever they do they won’t get any recognition from the establishment led, rancid media and if Starmer cured world poverty and single handedly saved the world from destruction, they would still say ‘Yeah, but compared to Thatcher!’.

Nah. Betrayal was the likes of Michelle Mone and those who recommended her and other cronies to the "VIP" lane for dodgy contracts. I wonder how many other countries did something like that.

So let's get this right. Labour gave the junior doctors a massive pay rise and now they want more so go back out on strike whilst a flu epidemic is causing chaos around the country.

And oh well unemployment is going up.

Some job they are doing.
