45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

Either we play him, or we loan him out or sell him. The lad has talent, but it's clear that playing only one match a month is difficult for him. We see it in his performances; he starts matches struggling, lacking rhythm and familiarity with the game, but as time goes on, he recovers and shows a good level. He needs to play.

Thought he was all over the place in the 1st half but much improved and showed his steel and ability in the 2nd

Does seem a trend that he starts the first 15 minutes like a headless chicken then gets stronger as the game goes in

I get it, he's young and doesn't play much but its something he needs to improve on

Think hes a massive prospect, honestly I do think a loan would do wonders for him but we cant really afford to let him go as our squad is looking a bit light atm

Second half he was fantastic, covered our arse numerous times but there is no hiding the fact he should have been sent off, and that likely costs us the game. He's very lucky VAR wasn't in use.

Its not the first time he's made an extremely rash tackle like that and won't be the last. He won't ever be a top centre back until he learns to cut that out of his game. With pace like his, he doesnt even need to be doing it so it shouldnt be difficult to learn.

All footballers benefit from playing regularly, it's excusable to be a bit off every now and again, especially if its your first start in a while like his tonight but that excuse won't remain valid forever. Too players have to learn to perform at the highest level right away.

Understandably rusty, when’s the last time he started?

Media harping on about a red is hilarious. ‘Only city get away with a red because the ball is heading away from the goal’ - remember the FA cup final? The ball heading towards the goalkeeper in the goal was judged to be not heading towards the goal

Ask any professional player or coach and they'll tell you the same thing: it's impossible to show your best level by playing very little, playing a match every three or four weeks, and training sessions will never replace regular competition. This is even more true and detrimental for a young player who lacks experience and is wearing a new jersey. If he starts matches poorly but then recovers as the minutes tick by, it's not a coincidence.
He starts the match with the fear of making mistakes and lacking match fitness, which is understandable when you haven't played two consecutive matches in almost three months. This isn't an excuse; it's an explanation.

Yeah, i agree with this.

But the team is fairly stable and winning games right now. He would be mine 3rd choice after Ruban and Gvadiaol (spelling).

No surprise he was slightly off it to start with, although the "could have been a red" challenge was him covering for Ake's poor reading of the situation in my opinion.

Excellent second half but I'm not sure the trust is there yet and you can understand why. With the pace and physicality he has he doesn't need to play on the edge so much.

If he showed a little more composure I think Pep would happily rotate him with Dias on the right a bit more. Needs more game time to gain that trust and maybe over this period it comes at RB.

What a beast we have got . I made a point of watching him closely throughout the 2nd half whilst defending at our end .
He was sniffing out danger constantly , always scanning and working in tandem with Ake. The Brentford player got put through on goal and he put the after burners on to sniff it out . He was making headers from dangerous crosses always alert . The only slight downside is his over eagerness to win the ball . Love him to bits he’s gonna be a powerhouse for us .

I'd have him as our 1st choice cb. He'd quickly lose the rash moments if played consistently (imo he is no worse than Gvardiol in that regard).

His speed and defending capacity is priceless imo.

(Also a knockon benefit could be that Gvardiol would step up as a leader without Dias by his side. Let the new generation loose.)
