Brentford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

The goal and celebrating were great but has been taken over by so much bitterness/criticism on every level I can take from someone who wants to fall in with the media agenda of anti City vitriol
I'm still annoyed we declared at five-one with half an hour remaining.
The twat works his own agenda which just conveniently falls in with the company line wherever he works
He makes camel features sound almost interesting

The real stars last night were the fans. To drag themselves to the stadium on such a filthy night was nothing short of magnificent.
Cheers for that. The outer concourse was one big puddle after the game.
The early finish didn't stop the usual fire drill and the ground was almost empty at full time, but it doesn't help when we stop attacking with real intensity towards the end of games we're winning. I know we have to conserve energy but I'm sure a small proportion of our early leavers go because they know the players are going through the motions.
On another note; there was a group of about a dozen wearing trackies bearing the INEOS logo sat near me. They got a load of stick leaving the ground but I suppose they can't see League Cup or European games at Scruffy Jim's place.

Definitely seeing Phil do more back heels and flicks this season along with Cherki working his magic it's opening up teams for fun.
It's obvious our new Zabba will get a few suspensions through out the season. But is recoveries are up there with Walkers pace. Really happy to see him gain in confidence and influence the game especially in the second half.
Ake was solid throughout the game too.
Plenty to like last night and that includes Savio. CTID
Agree but he has to get rid of the ridiculous tackles quickly. I did originally think his yellow was a 50/50 red but upon replays he should have been sent off because Ake was never catching the forward.
That would quite possibly have knocked us out

I thought Brentford were pretty poor last night and City, with their much changed side, didn't even have to get out of second gear. Brentford looked tired and lethargic and seemed almost happy to go away with a 2-0 defeat, at no point was I even mildly worried that we might not win.

A bit off topic
I was asked by an x City player who is a good friend to pick up Hinchcliffe at alicante Airport
( think he was over for golf ).
I said I am not having that **** in my car he was upset to say the least.
Got a WhatsApp this morning ...saying now I know what you mean. ; )

It was the sort of game you'd expect Reijnders to control and he was one of the poorer players on the night, but he still contributed some good moments
He's still new and has to be given time
But he's 27, was Serie A's midfielder of the season and has played for the Netherlands 29 times?

Hardly a fledgling, is he?

Seems a nice bloke, but looks just another unremarkable - albeit PL-standard - player at best.

I enjoyed the match, i thought it was a good run out for the squad and they did the job well. Lots of nice interplay, good minutes for many, and i thought it felt quite realxed. I had a feeling Foden would be a rare subbed-on and subbed-off situtation.

Khusanov red? i felt the attacker had pushed the ball slightly wide with his last touch, and that's what the ref went with. Who cares, it wasnt, and getting on with it was pre-VAR life.

I thought Brentford were toss, is that how they play in the league? i cant believe they have a striker on 11 goals in the league.
Wolves at weekend supposedly bigger game?
Think fans want semi final and dream

Khus can be a superb central defender. Athletically, he's got all the attributes. He has to wake up and get cannier about judging the when, where and how of his tackles.
By the way, for what it's worth, I think we still would have beaten that Brentford, even at ten against eleven. It's certainly not a foregone conclusion that they would have beaten us.

I think cherki has lifted the whole squad
We seem to be playing with a confidence I’ve not seen for a few years.
Definitely brings the best out of Phil and others aswell.
Some of that intricate 1-3 yard passing in ridiculous tight situations was brilliant to watch. Brentford was shite but not taking anything away from a throw together team
That looked like they’ve played together many times before.
Those lung busting runs from Ake had me worried about his hammies but he pulled through. The two nicos are looking like proper ballers now and cherki is wonderful to watch. I’m a little concerned with reinders contribution but All in all a great performance by all and into the barcodes we go. Come on City

We’ve seen some glimpses and yes he’s newish but it seems to me that games just pass him by sometimes.

I think he’ll be more influential for us once he gets a full season behind him.

I agree. I think he gets better every game & makes fewer mistakes. His pace is walker-esque

Ake was superb. Didn’t realise he had such pace.

Special mention for the cameo of Charley Gray. I have to admit I didn’t know much about him but he looks a confident lad. Good on the ball, constantly wants it. A bit Foden like. He impressed me

Funny how the bbc or any other MSM ignored the Newcastle defender taking out Foden in the penalty box with that disgraceful tackle few weeks back .....clear red card and penalty
We got neither.
Not to mention the handball involving Doku(given in Europe) and the clearly manipulated onside !

Was saying this on the way home. They pressed and caused us problems for the first 15 minutes or so, and we struggled to play through them. Then they sat off us and allowed us to control the game. I could understand that being part of the plan, hoping to catch us on the break.

But in the second half, even though they were only 1 down, they didn't seem bothered and even less so when we scored the second. We fully expected them to come out with all guns blazing for the start of the second half. I was staggered to see Keith Andrews say that they played with courage and he was happy with them. Me, my brother and Dave sat next to us, all said they looked like they were quite happy to settle for a narrow loss. Quite a bizarre approach considering they aren't particularly battling relegation or focusing on achieving a European place. A League Cup semi -final or even final would be a great objective for them.

That's why I think even at one man down we would have picked them off. They would surely have had to come out against us — pride alone would require it — and we would have got them on the break. We have the footballers to do it.
Frank did wonders with that team and that club. I hope they recognise it. Furthermore, he could perhaps have taken them further. Unfortunately for both, he was tempted by the “big” draw of Tottenham. Now he's discovering just what a poisoned chalice that is.

If you didn't know before watching, you might have thought that that was the Exeter F.A. cup game played early.

Not at all impressed by him, far too lackadaisical for me.
