I don’t think we can afford to rest Gonzalez in this game. He’s really come into his own recently and is controlling our midfield. We’ll need that in my opinion. Take him off if we get (a few) ahead.

He's one card away from a suspension and it's imperative that he plays vs Chelsea
Watching Sunderland today, we can definitely afford to rest him
 
I trust that Pep has been showing our defence how to deal with long throws as Sunderland have one of the most prolific throwers around. Also, that slippery Adringa (ex-Brighton) may cause us trouble on their left wing. Just some words of caution.
 
I think this could be the best time to go to their place. They were very poor today against Leeds - gave away a lot of space. It’s not just the AFCON hit but a few injuries impacting them as well. Important to get 3 pts with Chelsea coming up at the weekend.

Even better if Villa can sneak a point the night before, though I suspect we’ll be going into the game 5 points behind and just need to get the job done.

We bemoaned rodri's lack of backup constantly and ran him into the ground and have thusly lost him for going on 18 months.

Pep really needs to start using khusanov, Ake, and savinho. It only needs to be one a game but it just gives an extra few days to the players that need it. Khusanov for Nico G allows nunes to go into midfield. Ake for NOR allows gvardiol to move over to LB. Savinho to allow foden some rest.

Surprised at you saying that as Pep needs to rest some this midweek, or it's asking for trouble. They've got nearly half a team at Afcon, and looked shite against Leeds today.

We can't go same again at Sunderland and against Chelsea - that'll be 6 games unchanged I think.

Some need resting, and that was a pretty uncontroversial suggestion by mdj0520, imho. Personally, I'd give Dave Connor a run out against them - we should still have enough to beat Sunderland.
