Our recruitment since the treble has been bizarre. We have the best striker around so let's pair him with Doku who provides him 3 assists in 3 seasons, and with his hideous delivery into the box it's not likely to improve much. 8 assists in a hundred games for Bournemouth is almost Doku level bad, Semenyo is another who plays in his own little world and wants to score himself. So it'll be Foden who rarely links up with/assists Haarland, Doku who never does and Semenyo as an average striker standing on the wing, I'm not seeing what the plan is here.
For me Pep should be made to get some use out of the wide players we've already paid a fortune for before spunking more money away. Or if we do spend make it help for Gonzalez who finds himself in the Rodri position of a one man army holding the midfield together. He goes down injured we're back to last season's clownshow.
I have to disagree with your take here. Doku has actually been very productive, and he’s created the most chances from a wide position of any player in the world, so to say he “never assists” just isn’t true. Semenyo has also chipped in with 9 goals for Bournemouth, which shows he’s capable of contributing when given the right service. On top of that, Cherki and Reijnders both bring goals and assists to the table, giving us more options in attack than you’re crediting.
Our recruitment has clearly shifted to target players who can actually deliver goals, and it’s showing hence why we’re the top scorers in the league.
Regarding the midfield, the Rodri situation leaves the club in a tricky spot. With him not fully fit, the team must weigh whether to wait for his return or move in the market to secure another midfield player. City are also keen on Elliot Anderson, though that deal may have to wait until the summer. He would give us box-to-box energy, interceptions, and overall dynamism helping balance the side and take some of the burden off players like Nico G.
