Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

Not sure I’m reading this thread right but it seems like one poster has hallucinated a move for Ake to Bournemouth and now a few seem to think it’s a real thing.

Good news on Semenyo though, and despite the American fella voicing otherwise, I think he’ll play a big part for us.

Savinho, Doku and Bobb don’t have a lot of goals in them. Doku has his other strengths in creation but the other two offer nothing.

Marmoush will have the rest of the season to fight to justify his place, Bobb is finished and hopefully this move means we’ll see a bit less of Savinho.
You're not wrong. But it looks like the goals are coming from Foden/Cherki/Reijnders lately which I'm assuming is what Pep wants.

I'm not saying he's a bad player or would be a horrible signing. I just don't quite see the fit based on the way WE have been playing lately and I think defensive midfield is a bigger concern given the question marks around Rodri and Kovacic. Nico and Bernardo can't play every match with no subs.

I’m not asking Pep, I’m wondering if anyone else sees something in non-scoring non-assisting Savinho.

Yes but we need more than one goal scorer. Marmoush is good back up to Haaland.
Probably both are now back up players.
Marmoush seems lost when he plays on the wing.
Savinho seems to fit the team better but is well behind Cherki and Doku and will fall further behind should Semenyo arrive.

I’ve noticed some of his goals are very Raz-esque in the sense of arriving perfectly at the back post for a tap in. Which we have missed massively - a winger with a nose for a goal - since Sterling and Mahrez have been gone.

For a while now we’ve had wingers who go backwards, don’t take their man on and strengths lie in creating rather than finishing (I’m not downplaying their impact FWIW) so it’ll be nice to have somebody out wide who is a genuinely good finisher and has a knack for getting in the right positions.

Add to that, Doku elevating his game massively this season too. Exciting times.

Based on the way Pep had already been using Doku before he was hurt. Seemed to me he was looking to rotate 4 for 3 with Doku/Reijnders/Foden/Cherki and Savinho as the 2nd half sub for width/pace.

Sure, maybe Semenyo starts a game or two in Jan/Feb but after that, he's a sub like Savinho and he's competing with Marmoush in that space as well.

I just think it's a waste when they have bigger needs in central midfield and at center back.
cheers pep
and you know any central midfielders available in jan window ? maybe we could phone forest owner tomorrow im sure he'll be accommodating to talk to us

It's sounding to me like we are getting him. No long drawn out saga. No agents demands, no bidding war, and semenyo said himself he wants this done quickly.

I’m loving Viana. Since he joined 12 months ago there haven’t been many - if any - drawn out transfer sagas.

January 2025 business was quick and precise while the Summer deals were the same in time for the Club World Cup. Then January 2026 comes around and we’ve (allegedly) sewn up transfer target number 1 before the window has even opened.

At least 4 posters got on the Bournmouth bandwagon.

Youre not on your own as I think he'll be a great signing
You're making my argument for me. Pep rotates when he absolute has to. He rotated practically the whole squad against Leverkusen and they played like shit. He's got 4 attacking mids he likes for 3 spots Doku, Reijnders, Cherki and Foden. I don't see Semenyo breaking into that rotation. That leaves coming on as a sub. Is he better than Savinho? Of course. But would I pay £65 million for a sub? Fuck no. Plus there's Bobb and Marmoush as well. Are they better than Semenyo? No. But adding him just adds to the logjam of players Pep doesn't trust.

And Rodri doesn't seem like he's coming back very soon. Has he even been available? Kovacic is out til at least February. You've got Nico and Bernardo in defensive midfield, that's it. If they need a sub/rotation player somewhere, its defensive midfield.
So YOU dont want Semenyo because you think he'll only be a sub but you want City to sign a dm who will only be sub & seeing as Rodri is back in training would be even less rotational like Phillips.

As others have said he can play all across the front line & offers us something different especially with Doku out injured.

We have a front 4 at the moment, (Marmoush being at Afcon hasnt & his major injury while playing for Egypt hasnt helped) that is playing week in out which isnt sustainable

You are obviously implying that you dont rate Semenyo but he can also play the central role that Doku has been playing & with more of a goal threat

Foden v Palace, he got shunted out on to the left wing & was anonymous until he moved inside & scored
