Marc Guehi | Leading target for City (p28)

Not my money so I’m not too worried but with the rumors that every top club is in for him on a free in the summer, assume his camp will try to negotiate for higher wages if he’s to move on in January and miss out on a larger signing on fee, yeah?
Can someone explain to me in layman's terms how the the European teams, Madrid and Munich, can negotiate a deal with Guehi re: a free transfer but the PL teams cannot?
Madrid can get Guehi on a free transfer during this window and take him to their club at the end of the season.
liverpool and ourselves must wait till the end of he season to negotiate a deal with him if it involves a free transfer arrangement.

I'm not sure the exact reason, but in England teams can only negotiate bosman transfers with other players based in England within the last few weeks of their contract. Contracts typically run to the end of June, and I think we have either 4 or 6 weeks when we can negotiate with players, meaning we can begin formally negotiating in the middle of May or start of June.

Teams from abroad don't have the same requirement. I think it is something the authorities in this country decided, rather than a blanket rule. I think Italian and Spanish clubs can negotiate bosmans in their own country when six months are remaining like we used to.

Why would we pay Ake’s wages or offer Guehi any role in captaincy as part of a move?

Move is probably legit but that just sounds like Liverpool PR guff to cover the fact that he prefers City.
I wouldn't be surprised if we covered a *portion* of Ake's wages to facilitate a move (either to Palace or elsewhere), but other than that I agree. The captaincy bit sounds completely made up.

I don't know what he's on - but it's probably higher than anyone in their squad, so I can see them not wanting to break their wage structure and we subsidize a percentage of his pay. Certainly not the whole bill though I'd think?

Just the kind of player we should be going all out for. I do winder which current player would be dropped for him dias or Gvardiol?? Either way it strengthens our squad depth at the back immensely. Probably still need a no 8 or 2 Wharton would be my first choice and another rb not necessarily a first choice tho as nunes is improving at a rate of knots game by game.

I'll caveat this by saying my knowledge on this is entirely from Football Manager, but I believe this is an FA rule and only applies to English clubs.

If Guehi was playing abroad, we could negotiate a pre-contract at 6 months out (contracts expire July 1st/June 30th hence the January dates thrown about). For free transfers from other clubs in England, a pre-transfer can only be agreed within the last month before a contract expires.

Other European leagues don't have this rule, either for domestic or international transfers.

Can only imagine how the red top clubs would abuse the market if the rule wasn't there, so it's probably a good thing.

If not some good stories to be heard haha!!

If he comes in some sort of trade with Ake, I'd also tell stones he is free to leave in January too.
Dias, gvardiol, guehi and khusanov should be sufficient seeing as none of them have bad injury records. Most clubs have 4 centre halves.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if we signed both Guehi and Semenyo after the dippers tried to get both of them ? More so after they spent all that money in the summer to effectively go backwards. I agree, Stones should be shipped out ASAP. As much as I like him as a footballer, fitness-wise he just can't be relied upon. Thanks for all you've done, John Boy, but it's time for us all to move on.
