America Bombs Venezuela

Along with putin Trump is trying to split Europe they don't want a united Europe we are to strong if we really put our minds into it.
I agree. The problem is how to bring this about. The US while having a very diversified bunch of people living there by and large consider themselves American. Russia similarly. Europe has over 30 countries who regard themselves as French first, European second. You may be Texan first and American second but Texans speak the same language and have a similar culture, if you can call it that, to Minnesotans.
Europe to my mind has a lot going for it. A massive economy, interesting cultural differences and relatively sophisticated electorates. The challenge is to get the people to see we are stronger together in the face of what I see as the growing fascism elsewhere.

I had to double check it twice. Now Colin is no fool so he didn’t post it by accident. Disgraceful.
Has form for it - did the same graph before trying to make the same / or a similar stupid point, got called out, then went silient on the topic for a good period ...

I’m a little perplexed to be honest. This “new beginning for Venezuelans” that so many of Trump’s supporters have been celebrating in this thread looks an awful lot like removing Maduro but continuing to prop up the exact same administration and military leaders as long as they “cooperate” - and you can interpret cooperation in whatever way you deem fit but I’m going to postulate it won’t necessarily entail any change for people actually living there. Maybe they’ll get lucky and that will happen by chance?

Are Venezuelans happy about the prospect of swapping Maduro out for his patsy and expecting something different to emerge? Genuine question. History has shown we think the next one can’t be worse… and then they invariably are.

Trump's claiming that the US are in charge suggests that this isn't going to go well.
I wonder what the next move will be - he doesn't seem to have any domestically influential people to install.

It seems that Trump's narrow view is that one demonstration of force will mean that no-one will oppose them. That very rarely works well in a hostile setting.

Probably true mate but I dismiss these ideas about China invading Australia due mainly to the huge American presence here.

Which btw is due to grow.

  • Strategic Basing & Infrastructure:
    • Expansion at RAAF Bases like Tindal, Learmonth, Scherger, and Curtin for US Air Force and Navy operations.
    • Development of logistics hubs, including a future enduring site in Queensland (Bandiana) for stockpiling equipment.
    • Increased access for U.S. Navy vessels, including nuclear attack submarines, at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia.
  • Air Assets: Plans include rotations of nuclear-capable B-52 bombers through RAAF Base Tindal.
  • Naval & Communications: The existing Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt in Exmouth and the sensitive Pine Gap facility remain key.
  • Future Growth: Discussions involve potentially hosting larger, more permanent U.S. forces, including Marine Expeditionary Brigades of up to 10,000-16,000 personnel.
Why the Increase?
This buildup is part of the U.S. strategy to counter China's growing influence in the Indo-Pacific, turning Australia into a vital hub for power projection and deterrence.

My take on this is thank God for the USA!
Bill, good to have you back.
In response to your post. American bases are there because of a perceived Chinese threat but.....
What if Trump made a deal with Russia and China to divide the world. That would free up his military deployed in Australia to go after countries in his sphere on the new world order.

It sounds insane but I reckon there is already a deal being discussed with putin.

Firstly I'm guessing the Trumpist 'liberal interventionists' have retired from the thread out of sheer embarrassment at falling for such obvious propaganda regarding the oupouring of mass celebration. As you point out the chavista regime is still very much intact.

Secondly I'd caution against falling into the same trap of pretending that all Venezuelan's think the same .... and that that outlook automatically aligns with noisy expats in South Florida. Like the pretence that the government has zero grass roots support or that all of it's opponents support US intervention.

I forgot who it was who regurgitated a whole reel of mainstream talking points whilst accusing others of a lack of nuance but this is for him or her. Nuance aplenty in this.

I touched on this over the weekend in the Iran thread, based on the Iranians I’ve dealt with in the UK. Expats, especially ones who see themselves as exiled, tend to be naturally more inimical to the host government, individually and collectively, and Venezuelans in Florida will be no different.

Just been listening to one of the more morning news shows (MSNBC) over here in the US and they have essentially just normalised a military operation to  arrest kidnap a foreign leader. In fact actively praising those who planned and took part in such a 'perfectly executed' plan.

Back-slapping cunts talking about how the should divide the spoils, and who they should put in charge.

Scarborough's line about both sides have done it did it for me.

Probably had a phone call off Trump.

Quite funny watching Iran, China and Russia criticise America.
They can all fuck off
Russia invaded Ukraine and Venezuela, China and Iran have all looked to profit
Trump may be a dick, but I would rather a strong America that doesn’t give a fuck what China and Russia think.
To me it looks like they may be a bit worried now

I'm sure President Xi doesnt give a fuck about Trump. He can also do as he pleases in land grabbing and no one can stop him.

I know this sounds a little crazy, but maybe everyone should just respect the sovereignty of other countries and stop just thinking they are entitled to take what they want?

By all means try and negotiate a deal, and be prepared to be told to piss off, but don't come smashing through the gates with a big stick demanding control of everything.
