Newcastle United (A) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

Tough game and Newcastle were pretty physical. First half was a bit nervous from both teams but City stepped up second half.
Newcastle had their moments but I think City edged it overall.

Bernado ran his socks off. Semenyo exciting. Erl was ineffective. Rodri really does make a difference.
Doku frustrates me but he outs fear into the opposition and helps draw extra defenders to him.

We still shouldn't rest on our laurels. 2 goal cushion is great but not a guarantee.

The VAR really felt like a concentrated effort to rule offside. If it isnt clear after 30 seconds then its not clear at all.

He says anything behind Pope is classed as offside and Haaland was behind Pope.
Being in an offside position is not an offence. It is only an offence if the player makes an attempt to or plays the ball; or impedes an opposing player or affects the keepers line of sight. None of these instances occurred.

no way pep drops erling no matter what his form is, i reckon hed kick off
Thing is the longer he goes without scoring the sooner he gets his next one, even on the law of averages. We know he can do nothing for 88 minutes and bag a couple of goals. How do you drop somebody who can do that?

Was absolutely brilliant tonight. Pulling players off the ball and freeing space for other attackers. There's a reason Semenyo and Cherki had so much space in the box. 2 defenders went with Erling! Held the ball up on 3 occasions and found the overlapping player all 3 times.

It ain't all about goals. Doesn't matter who scores them.
Some folk don’t understand this. Fortunately we’ve got Pep who knows what a contribution Haaland makes

If Haaland was off side he wasn't interfering plus Haaland has the 5cm tolerance so clearly a goal
Absolutely this. You can manufacture an offside but no way was he interfering with play. There was a Newcastle player in the way of Haaland and the keeper who was going in the opposite direction. The decision is immensely stupid, incompetent and biased not to mention cowardly.

Memories don’t score goals. He needs to pull his finger out.
Read that back to yourself then look at what he's achieved since he signed, how many records he's broken, fuck me he broke another only a week ago, then ask yourself how ridiculous your is your post. Memories don't score goal!! Haha!
Granted he's not been firing for a few weeks but the lad deserves a bit of fucking grace i'd say.

Micah mensa and remedial Redknapp think it was the right decision
Course they do, and if it was given they would agreed too.

It's another scandalous decision where they don't really have anything to rule it out so pass the buck.

Ref to Var back to Ref, fucking pathetic.

As others have said, Haaland didn't touch it, wasn't in line and was being hold / holding on the line which happens at every single corner in the game.

If someone analysed every Arse goals from set pieces I would bet some of them would be chalked off using tonights metric.

If Newcastle score that tonight, not a fucking chance it is looked at.

People don't have a clue. If he doesn't score 3 or 4 goals every week he's shit and needs dropping.

They don't realise he takes 2/3 opposition players out the game because they're constantly marking him. Like you said Semenyo, Doku & Cherki had plenty of space to work in and that space was created via Erling.
