United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We don't know what goes on but what we do know is that city walk away from top targets all the time. Getting next best has been a method that has served us well.

World class players for certain positions is a must in an all conquering pep team. He also cares a lot about the club, last season stopped buying what was required because he didn’t see the squad falling apart like it did. Wanted to save city a few quid.

I would say overall we have let him down with player recruitment. Asked him to perform miracles on a lot of ok/good players but not world class.

Give him what he needs. That is not potential but Top tier. Now money maybe an issue at times and how we are viewed on net spend and ffp/115. Plus world class is very expensive.
We did sign a world class goalkeeper. Out of curiosity what world class players (available) should we sign?

Excluding the team world Cup, we have already played 33 games the rags have played 24.
As they have sacrificed everything to qualify for the CL, the financial hit they are taking must be serious.

World class players are never available unless you pay up. Neves, Vitinha from PSG.

The later was on loan to wolves ffs. How long is a piece of string. World class is available, we don’t shop in that department.

Haaland RC and wanted city. Would not buy him if he was at another club now. Donna and psg fell out. They needed rid and Eddie had departed 2 seasons before so again an opportunity presented itself.

The squad has too many good but not great players. Look at the results. Facts don’t lie.

We can’t keep asking pep to create world class players. Last one was Rodri. Before that he had already world class in Sergio, Komps, silva etc.

Recruitment.

90 percent of them are twats. Obsessed with City even when we were in the third division. Their DNA is spelt TWAT.

The hoardes who go to the shithole regularly aren't going because the football is so special or good to watch, but because they think it makes them part of a "special environment" and believe all the smoke blown up their arses by the never-ending army of media whores who churn out the hype.

Feeble-brained and pathetic sheep.

TWATS fill the Cockneydome.

We didn't look right from the off, and as poor as the rags have been, when I saw the Iine up, I feared the worse. I know we have an injury crisis atvthe back, but surely with such a weakened defence more emphasis should have been placed on having a bit more bite in midfield. We were constantly outnumbered in the middle of the park, which put the back four under increased pressure. We also looked leggy and couldn't get back when they hit us on the break. Whether in this window or the summer we need some pace, power and presence in the midfield so we can start to dictate the tempo of the game.
Yep, midfield was non existent.

But we didn’t pay world class money for Sergio, Vinnie or Silva. Yaya didn’t cost much. The only really daft money went on Jack the lad. Liverpool signed ‘world class players’ this season! You’re right though , the player have now are not a patch on the ones we’ve mentioned. But football is cyclical. Great team’s come and go .We are nearing the end of a fantastic era and I’m ok with that. So long as we’re entertaining and showing passion in games I’m happy. ( plus the odd cup obviously). Yesterday I was seriously pissed off.

We brought in real game changers at decent prices giving us a really good balance in midfield. During our dominance at any one time we had a trio consisting of David Silva, Yaya Toure, Kevin DeBruyne, Fernandinho, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan giving us that perfect balance of intelligence, vision, technical ability, creativity, control, thus allowing us to set the tempo. This is why Sane, Mahrez and Sterling were potent, as the aforementioned utilised their abilities. Currently our wingers are being asked to be more creative, and if we are being honest, they're very hit and miss. I know It was always going to be a big ask finding like for like quality, but the drop in standard has been very noticeable.

I'd reword that to say 'We reached the end of a glorious era over a year ago, and Pep's embryonic new young side remains in the hunt for four trophies in January.'

Expectations…

City have been immense, best in class for a long sustained period of time.

Best thing we can do is look at the situation again.

We have struggled to replace some world class players and it shows. We have struggled badly with injuries and it must be sickening. No other team can survive without its mains CBs. Stones never available is a nightmare.

Far too many players aging and injured. New players are expected to perform at the level we have become accustomed to but are either not good enough or struggling to adapt.

So realistically we are at a decent level. Not great, not bad but somewhere in the middle.

Pep? I don’t know he seems to be struggling with the amount of changes. He likes a small squad, where he relies in a certain amount of players but he has had to manage a lot of outgoing and incoming. The settled squad inherited does not exist currently.

Nothing we can do about it unfortunately but let it play out. We have signed some good players in January. Good players seem to be the main point. How good are the new players? Jury is out.

The system that served us so well is busted. We are so poor in possession now I would love a change to counter attacking football. Everyone now accepts a pale imitation of what we used to be.

Playing out from the back, it’s shocking. Putting aside the keeper change for a second, edie played a big role but Donna saves more so it evens out. The defenders can’t be trusted to break the lines, can’t pass more than once without a mistake.

The midfield is not solid with only nico or rodders holding it together. Haaland due to these issues can’t get into the game. New winger now will be interesting.

Sorry for rant, defence and midfield is solely to blame. Pep also for persisting on playing out with players who can’t do it to a high level leaving us vulnerable. Wingers also have issues, 8/10 also is an issue. Camping out with no solution only for a quick break against the high line is again a walking disaster.

We are clearly a team in transition. To what tho? It’s confusing and not identifiable as a pep team, more like a mixture of Klopp and pep but doing neither to a high level and thus play crap.

Make your mind up time. Personally the players are not capable of possession football that is effective. Pep can’t let it go as that’s his philosophy, the club buy seemingly with one eye on the future.

Need to decide what way we want to go. This stuck in the middle is why results like yesterday happen often.
Don't be sorry m8, great post.

We need AT LEAST TWO MIDFIELDERS who know their jobs, which is create going forward and disrupt and/or destroy when defending. We have ONE of those on the field at any time, not the minimum two we need right now!

NEED Anderson or someone like him from overseas, and need to not waste a player at RB or LB against teams that will never play a front three against us.

We currently play a 4-1-4-1, where 2 of our 4 in midfield are wingers asked to do dirty work, yet wonder why Haaland gets no service!

Instead, we should set up as a 3-2-3–1-1, with Rodri slotting into the back 4 as needed when our backs are to the wall in the game. With 2 DMs, it allows us to greater flexibility to attack and defend, but our wingers are doing NOTHING to help control midfield, and are just taking up space!

The PL is controlling the style of the league, taking it back to the dark ages, all to accommodate the rags and dippers.
Pep coming to league was like a breath of fresh air. To me this was the beautiful game. Now for the sake of the money men, we're now being dragged back to the brutish, agricultural trash of the red tops.
Our players get zero protection

It’s opinion, a bit like saying my favourite colour is whatever. I haven’t said for example the moon is made of cream cheese, which is objectively nonsense. You can have your opinion which may be that the Earth is flat, which is objectively bollox or you can say Foden is earning £300k per week and has not been stealing a living for nearly two years, which is a subjective view.
None of us on here know what any player is earning

Things to take from Saturday.
We are the rags cup final.
Lewis is never going to be good enough, just need Pep to see it.
Foden will never be Kdb or David so right hand side or bench or dare i say sell he has been wank for the best part of 18 months.
Donna best keeper in the world.
Kush will be some player.
Nathan time is up.
We need to cross the ball to Erling.
All is not lost we have a few issues but its not like there is not progress.
