Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Pep disowned this kind of football since Haaland has become exclusive No.9 and when he stopped subbing him.
If so, that is not Haaland's fault.

It is Pep's fault imo.

He is a legend and rightfully talked about as such. But he is meant to be more than that now. He is meant to be our current manager - ensuring that we are continously improving as a team. And I've not seen genuinely good performances (except in patches) for a long time.

Pep set the team up wrong, no balance and a poor game plan we yet again lacked desire and belief, we need to mix things up more at times be more direct and FFS get some early balls in the box be progressive far to many players first instinct is to pass backwards.
The injuries although not an excuse are a factor.
We’ve had worse nights, time to stick together.
I agree it was noticeable we actually played better after Rodri got himself sent off. I’m guessing that was down to more effort rather than anything else
Pep got the selection and set up horribly wrong tonight he tried to accommodate Rico in a midfield position rather than risk him at right back again
Clear to me Bodoe had worked long and hard on their low block with fast transitions game. We might as well as played second string and made them come on to us and confuse the fuck out of them. We don’t seem to have a plan B though

Look at the difference man. Pass and move, pass and move, pass and move - all with movement off the ball from players trying to create angles for those on the ball. Night and day to the shit served up now.

The main difference is passing with purpose and intent

We pass to try and keep the ball, but with no real plan or strategy of what the end result is

Because it was an important game and we were already without 9-10 players.

The attitude stunk tonight. I hope they learned that lesson.

I feel sorry for the young blues who played. All of us need to get behind them. The best player was O'Reilly. We needed 10 others.
Where does the bad attitude stem from though? That's 2 games on the bounce with a powder puff showing and non existent desire to get back in the game.

Isn’t there someone on here that doesn’t rate David Silva? Haha. Man that passing into midfield we miss so much.

No, he's not. Real change typically involves more than just a rote statement to the media. Maybe EH could make an effort to press opposing defenders.
You didn't say real change or the rest, you just said he should start by looking in yhe mirror - he is starting that by taking full responsibility. As well he should start with that, because he’s been shite and he's the highest paid player, with the longest contract. Admit fault, take responsibility, show it on the pitch

KDB and Walker were terrible in their final seasons at City. Gundo blew hot and cold for two seasons. We are in this mess because Pep, by his own admission, refused to sanction the beginning of the revamp of the squad two years ago. Instead, we only brought in Savinho, who has been a massive disappointment, and thrust Rodri out there, match after match, until he did his ACL. Since then, it's been falling dominoes. As I see it, this is on Pep, who has not been the same manager since his wife filed for divorce...there, I've said it !!
Agree totally. Not sure about the divorce bit but Peps loyalty to his players has really blown up in his face

Ah great, now we are going down the rags route of our players coming out after games talking bollocks and apologising.

If they put in effort and performances on the pitch then they wouldn't have to talk nonsense after a game.
Yep talk is cheap, let’s see some effort and pride on the pitch.
Let’s be honest, it ain’t a one off.
Our mentality is on the floor.

Pep will never tell his wide men get down the long cross it first time and have players in the box! It’s so weird that we rarely cross the fucking ball from wide left foot swinging in or right foot swinging award from the goalie it’s pass back or Doku gets past a man pass it along the floor
Second (?) goal against Everton I think. NO'R crosses first time and Haaland buries the header.
The rest of the time we slow things down so much that even the slowest team (other than us) has the time to get ten behind the ball.

Someone posted earlier not sure if it was this thread but pep did seem to adapt and we played that counter attacking football results were in the main decent and then it suddenly changed what has brought about this, has he been fighting against it himself and has reverted to type ..

I don't think it's a kneejerk reaction at all suggesting a managerial change and a new coaching set up. This has been building from the four in a row season when somehow we got over the line without playing attractive football. Last season was a car crash culminating in an abysmal fa cup final showing, and this season has followed suit, boring stale football with the players now looking totally unmotivated. I think Pep will get the season and that's it
Agreed. Suspect he would have gone last season if we'd won things.

Fired-up underdogs, shit pitch, defensive mistakes, shit tactics, low confidence and player gets sent-off timed to kill any comeback. It happens.
(How the fuck we’re still on the edge of a title race is a complete mystery).
I’m questioning for the first time how Pep can fix this and motivate this team - I’m really not sure he can do it. Maybe time for a change for everyone’s benefit including Pep - this must be hurting him.
I don't think that Pep really wanted to continue after the end of last season, he looked washed out, what with the difficulties in his personal life (and the loss of KDB).
I think Pep was persuaded by Khaldoon to continue, against his better judgement, probably until a suitable replacement manager could be found. But who is that man?
Pep is possibly the greatest manager ever seen in the game, no star has shone brighter, but he has a weakness, an insecurity which sometimes causes him to be overawed by other, less capable managers.
Maybe it is time for Pep to leave, maybe not, but don't forget the time when he made City "the best team in all the land and all the world".
If Peps' era is coming to an end then let the man himself decide, he has earnt that at least.
On Saturday we, the fans, need to sing the song. Get behind Pep and the team, they need us. We are the 12th man and we love CITY.
We are in this together, through great times and tough times.

Feckin Spurs are currently above us in the CL table...FFS

It's going to get worse by tomorrow night. It's almost a certainty.
And yes, it is disgraceful that Spurs are above us, but that's the way this system works. They are shit. They lost to West Ham at their own gaff just a few days ago, West Ham, who cannot buy a draw, let alone an away win. Crisis with the entire crowd baying for Frank's head…
Spurs are fourteenth, too. We are second (miraculously, because nobody else wants to win).
