14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Comparing anyone to Silva, Yaya, NDJ, peak Rodri is an unfair comparison for a young lad finding his feet in a Pep team and the most difficult position on the field, but…hey, that’s BM & City fans right now!

It ain't just him, you can add a few more to the list unfortunately, just the way the recruitment process has been I'm afraid

Well put. He's clearly nowhere near the finished article. He is showing a steady improvement which is all we can ask for at the moment in a young player playing a notoriously important and difficult role. Lets give him a chance to see how far he gets.

The only criticism I'd give is he does seem to feel the pain a bit more than others.

Kind of you to put the location of your head in your bio

I was excited to see him, even though against League One opposition and for the minutes he was on, it was underwhelming to say the least, so yea it's stuck, as since that day you can count on one hand how many decent performances he has had

Even him who once played for us (your username) was better than him and that's saying fucking something.

So save your insults for someone that cares you clown

And there it is..........the let's give him a season syndrome

Clearly have different opinions. I think hes already a good player who will get better. You're probably just copy and pasting your comments from the Rodri 2020 thread just with the 'Plodri' removed.

You'll be bitterly disappointed if you think this is a new Rodri in the making, you may as well try to absorb that right now

I'm not expecting him to be a new Rodri. Just a decent midfielder. Very few players will be as good as Rodri was/is that's not a slight, just the truth of how good Rodri is.

Its like the 'new messi' shit that gets bandied about to any semi decent attacking player.

Decent doesn't fit the bill mate, need to be a lot better than decent at this club, because I could name at least a dozen (PL players) if not more who are miles more "decent" than him, and that's a worry

the most difficult position on the field
Quite an assumption, that - based upon what?

At the top level, I think that every position is equally difficult.

I was a striker - occasionally a DM which I could just about pull off - but on the couple of times I tried full back, I didn't have a clue. And I'm old enough that these occasions were when 'all' a full-back had to do was defend. The funky new term 'wing-back' hadn't yet been invented. A completely different skillset for which I had zero aptitude.

Were you a DM, by any chance?

He got done in the Brighton game by a player coming in and kneeing his calf,so I think that is the issue Calf injuries can be an difficult, take a while to heal he played on and went off at 64mins not seen since For me he’s done well this season been an vital member of the team and we are definitely missing him He s had two injuries this one and the one he got on his debut which was a rib injury anyone who has had one of those, broken or even just bruised knows how hard it is to breathe properly

At the moment, I put him as the back up we never had and he's definitely good enough for that. Its a spot we missed for a couple years. and I think he's more then good enough to play that role.

Hopefully Gonzalaz alongside Rodri will reinforce the midfield and make us less prone to those pacy counter attacks

However, that's probably just me clutching my last straw.
The problem is that when the opposition are looking to clip one over your ridiculously high defensive line, you could have four absolute giants across the middle yet the entire width of the pitch would still too much for them to protect from this most basic of tactics - one that strangely seems to 'surprise' us more than any other team.

Yeah, I was meaning more that with Rodri alongside Gonzalez, we might stop losing the ball so many times in stupid positions, with Cherki, Reijnders and Foden all ahead of the ball.

However you're spot on with what happens afterwards
