Spurs (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

That is truly shocking. Last season it was because our midfield was old, injured and we had no defence, so they could only play for 60 minutes. This season (particularly 2026) we seem to get a lead, then the advice at half time is - let them have the ball and we'll look to soak up pressure and counter. Which only works if we are clinical, can hold out and also if we don’t collectively shit our pants at pressure

Brilliant, intelligent response. Expect nothing less from him. But do expect pigmol to do nothing........apart from possibly charge him.
Just because Rodri says it was a clear foul doesn't mean it was. On balance it probably was a foul but in real time this was not easy to see. Rodri is clearly frustrated that after 18 months he is still well away from the heights he has achieved in the past. He was lucky not to be sent off for the second time in two weeks and probably would have been better off shouting at some of the under achievers in his own team yesterday.

Maybe. But the giant momentum shift was in place before that goal which as you say was dubious. They had more than enough about them to win the game tbh, blaming the ref is a cop out.
You'd expect a team that had played so badly in a first half to come out guns blazing after a HT talk and tactical adjustment. Im sure City were expecting it. Normally it dies down after 15 mins or so, unless they manage to get a goal and then the momentum increase even more. IF a foul had been given, and the goal disallowed, then the outcome may have been different

Having watched the game back this morning, there's a lot of truth in this. We came out second half and immediately some of the decision making from our most experienced players was utterly baffling. It's not that they can't play through the press, it's that they kept giving the ball back to Spurs.

The first goal comes from a lump forward from Donnarumma, a foul given against Semenyo, which leads to Ait Nouri, NOR, and Bernardo mindlessly pressing without any idea of what's behind them, which allows Spurs to make TWO passes and be running at our CB's. That's not good enough when you've already given them the ball back 3 times in the five minutes that have elapsed since the second half kicked off. They get the corner and the goal comes from NOR and RAN then being way too deep even after the corner because they've lost their heads due to what just happened.

It only gets worse from there. Every time we got the ball someone would blam that ball into a channel for Semenyo or Haaland. What the fuck is that? Literally you're winning the game, just kill it. Put the ball in the fridge. Stop giving them the ball. Play slowly. Play sideways and backwards. Bore Spurs back into their low block. The second goal is even worse to watch because it's a fucking nothing burger of a punt forward, a clearance, and then inexplicably Nico G lets Gallagher run past him, whilst NOR is somewhere in midfield even though our left back has just been subbed and NOR has been moved to left back. It's a fucking hanging piece of play. Utterly embarrassing schoolyard stuff.

Every time we managed to put our foot on the ball for a few minutes, someone would do something daft. Took us 15 minutes to get a sustained period of possession in the second half. What happened when we had dropped Spurs and finally had our foot on the ball? Rodri plays a line breaking pass to a Spurs player, who immediately releases Xavi Simons to run at Nunes. Two minutes later, we finally get the ball back, and RAN runs the length of the pitch before losing the ball and Spurs break again.

Honestly, if I were the two Peps, I'd make them watch that second half back in slow motion whilst standing at the front and shouting out 'brain dead' every time someone did something brain dead.
Your spot on Billy.

So Rodri is right then, it was a foul.
Is that what you’re saying?

No need to search through your posts, you’re honesty does me. I ask as an old mate of mine who travelled home and away for years, just gave it up overnight, stating that he was getting bored of it. This was a couple of seasons after our second PL, and double under Pellers.

There were many conversations but what I couldn’t understand, as we were still doing well compared to where we had been historically in our lifetimes, was where the issue was. In the end it came down to him personally, not wanting to go through the ups and downs again, he was drained and not used to following a team that were in with a shout.

Interestingly, he was back in love with City in Pep’s second season but last year had fallen away again.

Just wondering if it’s the same thing and, if not, is it the manager that needs to be changed, the squad that isn’t good enough for any manager, or can another manager get better results with this squad?
Appreciate your well written reply mate.

I’m completely different from your pal, I absolutely adore going to see City, never get bored of going and I’ve barely missed a game over the last 25 years.

I’m just of the belief we need a freshen up, as I said I reckon the football we play is pretty stale nowadays and has been worked out by a lot of managers. We most certainly aren’t getting the best out of the talent at our disposal, and that’s on Pep for me.

I’ve never been so self entitled as to assume we’d always win stuff, I genuinely wouldn’t give a fuck if we went back to obscurity, although obviously I can’t see if happening and hence with our amazing owner I see no reason why we wouldn’t be replacing Pep with a top level manager. It’s hardly like we will be switching to some random geezer from lower divisions.

I can’t guarantee a different manager will get more out of this squad but after 10 years and all the glory we’ve had, I just reckon Pep needs to move on.

It might not have been clear and obvious, but that requirement was ditched some time ago and the majority of incidents investigated by VAR are nowhere close to clear and obvious errors.
It's a strange take from him when only a couple of weeks ago the Haaland offside happened that took nearly 6 mins.
Clear and obvious is a phrase that means fuck all.

It’s about time we started speaking out.
Week after week of getting shafted.
Other clubs scream from the rooftops while we ‘respect the referee’s’
Long may it continue.
He cuts an extremely frustrated figure. I’m sure he’s as angry about his own standard of play than about the terrible decisions we’re getting. I’m sure he’s as worried as the rest of us as to whether he can get back there. Love his commitment tho.

You don't have to listen to his politics.
We know what he does best because we've experienced it for a decade.
If it's time to part ways so be it, but have some fucking respect for the job he's done.
Where have I said I have no respect for what he has done ? Stupid irrelevant comment. All players and coaches should be disciplined when they start giving their views on politics and world matters. If I was paid what they were I reckon I would manage to adhere to that rule. People in top positions should not exploit their positions no matter whether you agree with their opinions or not. Football is number 1.

Isn't this why VAR was originally brought in?
Absolutely it was .....

I threw the towel in with VAR the other week when they took five mins deliberating over one of our goals, or was it a penalty, only to hand it back to the f'kin referee, who promptly stuck by his own decision! .... can't recall which game it was now, but it was an infuriating wait!

O Reilly embodies just how far the standards have dropped without some realising it.

He’s just nowhere near the level, but it’s kind of become acceptable because he’s a nice young lad, and there’s actually a lot worse than him.
Go on wheres the worm ;-)

Maybe not easy to see by rhe ref. However, very clear to see on var.
