Will we win the league this season? No

to catch arsenal we need to win 2 games and for them to lose 2 games

so their goal difference would drop by at least 2 and ours would rise by at least 2

so only being 2 goals worse off than them isn't an issue

obviously us needing them to lose 2 is an issue mind
1 of them should be us. If we don’t win that, very unlikely we will be champions. So 2 draws or 1 defeat will be needed. Bit 2 defeat will leave it down to GD

Clearly we need to beat them (Arse) at ours for us to stand any chance and I do sense we are going to peak at the right time. Tonight is a huge game for them (and us) in terms of the title race. If they go there (Brentford) and win well then i think the bottle job tag can go out of the window as this is the most pressure they have been under all season. 0-0 at 80mins plus will be difficult to cope with, im not sure i can stand to watch it tbh, its like 2018/19 all over again and that was very stressful

Given that top 5 will make the CL, Opta have the following predicted points…

4. Liverpool 62.79
5. Chelsea 62.67
6. United 62.48

One of those missing out.

Looking at Chelsea's fixture list, I can see them finishing 8th or 9th.

If Villa get top 5 and win the Europa, England will get 6 spots as well.

Some pundits seem to underrate City.

Can't tell how much of that is due to wishful thinking and how much is due to simplistic generalisations.

"This is not a great City team". That's true if you measure the potential of the team on the basis of points won alone. But if you factor in many objective factors related to injuries, rebuilding, new players finding their feet, Pep experimenting with tactics and formations to find the optimal ones, etc., then you might be less convinced that this City team wouldn't reach impressive heights this season.

Just noticed, Arse have done that sneaky trick in bringing a league game forward because of postponenent later in the season.

They now play Wolves away next Wednesday (a CL night no less).

The game they should play be on League Cup weekend.

We obviously can't do the same because our opponents that weeked (Palace) are in Euro action next week so can't play us.

Not right this imo, 2 Clubs going for a title, a quad actually. One can bring a game forward to get it out of the way, the other can't!

Bringing league games forward from the original Matchday weekend is just wrong!
Arsenal pulling every stunt available to get over the line this season. Yet they’re only 3pts plus a gih ahead of us. If it starts to go wrong and they start dropping points, the pressure will kill them.

Is that definitely correct about the possible Villa scenario?
I thought that an extra place for CL or EL winners only applies if that club finishes outside the automatic places (whether that’s four or five).
Happy to be corrected if I’ve got it wrong.

Well one of the two we need them to lose is against us, so we have that in our own hands at least.

The treble winning side is obviously rightly lauded, but it's easy to forget that team was pretty average until about the same stage of the season as now. Us adding Guehi and Semenyo provides so much at both ends of the pitch and the middle is getting stronger by the week as Rodri recovers and Nico O'Reilly grows into that role

Sure I read that as long as Villa finish in the top 4/5, if they win the Europa that league finish place has to be passed down.

This is because the Europa Champions get a tier 1 seed in the CL draw whereas the 3rd of 4th League place finish get a 2nd or 3rd tier seed so their Europa win would overrule their league finish.

Somebody then has to fill that league finish place.so the draw quota is filled for next season.

No its not. We would do it if it suited us. Just get on with it.

We were 5 pts off them after they drew with Leicester in early February. Then they drew 3 more games, W Ham, United and Everton, and we were top by mid March.
Nearly - it was game week 29 in the first weekend of March!

Had to look up the date but remember we won 1-0 away at Bournemouth on the Saturday without conceding a shot off or on target. They then drew 0-0 away at Everton on the Sunday and we went 1 point clear. The rest is history...

I set off for work at HT for that Everton game fully expecting them to have scored by the time I got there. Nice little surprise when I arrived and it was FT.

It's wrong mate in the current circumstances all things considered, it's not a dead rubber.

Will you be happy come the end of the domestic season if we have to play 3 meaningful games in 6 days and they have their feet up?

Personally, it should have been declined because we are not able to submit the same request.

The last few weeks of a season can feel very different to the rest. Games might look easy on paper but all kinds of crazy things can happen in the final weeks of the season. Squeaky bum time.
Yeah agree. We have West Ham away and that has now turned into a very tricky fixture.

Agreed
Generally, I find their analysis too high level and pretty lazy. A lot of it seems to be narrative driven and not very objective.

They are not specialists on City, and trying to cover multiple teams and even leagues. So they won't watch all our games, therefore their opinions are flawed

They were 10 points ahead of us after a 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal on 29th December. We won a game in hand the following day away to Southamton and then the magnificent 2-1 win a few days later to close it to 4 points.
Cheers mate. We also lost later that month (January) to Newcastle before going on that unforgettable run. Didn’t Liverpool draw in the same round of fixtures (Leicester maybe?) which took the gap to five - and then they drew two more which meant we won the league by a single point?

Only game they lost that season, that magnificent win. I doubt there will ever be another season like it. Still my favourite one.

And also, they are twats.

Almost all correct! We lost the Newcastle game 24 hours earlier and they missed the chance of extending lead to 7 points rather than 5 points. They drew 3 more and dropped 6 more points whilst we were perfect for the remaining last 14 agmes.
I know you have a particular fondness for 18/19 :) Likewise with me :)
