1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

I don’t want us to sell him

I definitely don’t want him wasted as our number two for another season

I do want Donnarumma as our number one for a few seasons at least

Maybe loan him out to a premier league team like Leeds for 2 seasons ? Needs to be guaranteed number 1

i think this one could happen next season if we sell and Leeds stay up .
I don't know mate, I just think if he does go then he would do a job for a better team than Leeds, going from being only just kept out of the our team by the best keeper in the world to a relegation battle just doesn't seem right.
We struggle to get rid of some of our dead wood due to their wages here, maybe it could work in our favour with this situation, his time will come and he's still very young for a keeper

What about loaning him out for a couple of seasons to a team like Leeds ?

I thought about a long loan of two or three seasons to a Premier league team. I wonder if this is a viable option.
If we agreed to a loan then I'd expect the loan club to fully cover his wages paying us a loan fee without an option to buy.

But if an option to buy is included it must be on our terms with buy back and sell on fee included. JT is contracted to us and we call the shots on him right now.

A loan would suit us but whether or not it happens is another thing, we have already sold him once.
If it was a loan I would prefer it to be to someone like Brighton or whatnot, rather than a team that will be struggling near the bottom.
The longer Leeds stay in premier league they will get more stable and with respect to the likes of Brighton from a fanbase they are not even at the sane level as Leeds are top 6 in terms of support . Either way I’d rather keep him though .

He’s the only non-regular that plays every game like he is trying to force his way into the starting XI. He does so, despite being the one that is probably pissing in the wind more than any other. He’s going to find it almost impossible to dislodge Donna, no matter how well he performs and yet he’s 100% no matter what.

Others would do well to take a long, hard look at themselves and take a leaf out of Traffords book.

If we don’t loan him and instead decide to sell then we’re absolute fucking chumps.
Donnarumma’s agent has already hinted at him having one eye on a return to Italy. We need Trafford for the long haul.
Not really our decision though.Trafford clearly came here thinking he'd be number 1 either immediately or at worst next year when Ederson leaves, he didnt come here knowing we would then sign a 26 year old Yashin award winner weeks later.

He's got every right to be feeling unhappy and wanting out rather than agreeing to us asking for him to put his career on hold for an undetermined number of years.

He'll almost certainly leave permanently in the summer. We probably won't miss him in the immediate future but there will be a point where we look on at him doing well elsewhere and be envious we dont still have him.

Absolutely love both of our goalkeepers. I assume the club must have signed him as our number 1 when he signed - we weren’t to know Donarumma would be available.

I hope we find a way to keep him, like others have said, a loan option may work for us but probably not for him. He’s too good to be second fiddle. His record for England youth and Burnley speaks for itself.

He’s a winner. We’re lucky to have him

He’ll just want to play surely, a loan move keeps everyone happy.

Think that only keeps us happy. He could easily go be Newcastles number 1 or a team of a similar standard, what club of that stature is going to bring him in on loan? They'll want to own him so he'll only get a loan at a team he is too good for. Would be sensational business to get him to agree to a loan but highly doubt it will happen.

Wonder if we could have another buy back option…
