I grew up on Langley and at some point had to go to school in Heywood.I had family in Heywood when i was a kid, it was like the hills have eyes.
I concur.

That's no way to talk about your familyI had family in Heywood when i was a kid, it was like the hills have eyes.
I went to Heywood once. I didn’t slow down.I grew up on Langley and at some point had to go to school in Heywood.

Distant cousins on my dad's side, scared the fuck out of me as a young kid :-)That's no way to talk about your family
All my half siblings were born and raised in Heywood, including 4 half brothers (3 of whom are ex forces). Good lads but a a breed "apart" shall we say. Always felt like it was going to kick off in the pubs.Distant cousins on my dad's side, scared the fuck out of me as a young kid :-)
Are the pedants the people who've read Powell's speech? Or the people trying to distinguish between race, culture, colour, ethnicity or nationality?Maybe not but when you use the term racist you know what it implies to the vast majority, and I mean the vast majority. The thread has enough pedantry with the Enoch stuff I cant be arsed going down that route.
There will be crossovers but the examples I gave stand up to scrutiny on the differences.
Then there is the more obvious - if all four were exactly the same there wouldn’t be much need for four separate words to describe it :-)
I remember when I moved to Christchurch from Bournemouth and had just started a new job. Went out on a works do so didn't drive so got a bit popped up. Anyway night over I had no idea what bus would take me home so started walking as it was a lovely mild night. It was about 6 - 7 miles but I did it ok. On Monday in the office I was asked did I get home ok and I said yeah I walked it - helped walk off the beer. They were all agog - "you walked through Boscombe on your own at night????" Honestly anyone who has been there will know its not the Bronx and to this day I have no idea what should have concerned me.
Down?
1. Not wishing to be pedantic but cult, culture and ...culturism are from the same root. All people should be treated equally, a person should be judged on the content of their character, but the cult of DEI and multiculturalism requires one to treat all cultures equally and that is something that in real life next to nobody does.
The left acknowledges this, hence the likes of black history month where we're all supposed to pretend that the Benin Bronzes are the equivalent of the Renaissance.
Sorry you're too late to the party its moved on. And as I really cant see any worth or point to your post you might as well do so as well. Are the pedants the people who've read Powell's speech? Or the people trying to distinguish between race, culture, colour, ethnicity or nationality?

Real pedantry. "Multiethnic" is like television, half Greek half Latin. It should be polyethnic.
2. I thought black history month, like DEI, was to correct bias. And to point out that no African colonist looted the Mona Lisa from Paris.
What do you mean by "it doesn't exist"?DEI doesn’t exist in the UK. It’s an American policy, and the fact fumble keeps bringing it up is just indicative of how far down the American far right rabbit hole he has fallen.

NHS equality, diversity, and inclusion improvement plan

The NHS is the largest employer in the UK and one of the largest in the world. It employs over 1.5 million people (on a headcount basis in England alone as of August 2025). The NHS, covering England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, has more than double the employees of the second-largest employer in the UK.
Whoops!
You'll have to better than that.
It exists but until recently it’s not been referred to as DEI. At my former place of work we did no end of online mandatory training about diversity and inclusion but it was never referred to as DEI (unless I slept through that bit).DEI doesn’t exist in the UK. Remember Hawker Siddeley being connected in the sixties but not exactly where it was located apart from the south coast. Not Boscombe down the seaside town between Bournemouth and Christchurch
Waffle, dither and fudge.Yeah see this is exactly the problem. You see someone like the NHS laying out a framework about how it’s going to make sure it doesn’t discriminate based on race and gender because it’s been found to in the past, and assume it’s part of some conspiracy against white people.
You see a report on diversio abiut how businesses are responding to employees wanting to work in a diverse workplace and are hiring more disabled people because remote work is more possible now, and think is persecution of people who aren’t disabled.
While we’re posting guardian articles though, here’s one -

We had specific DEI officers in our workplace until recently. Most of whom considered getting into those roles as far bloody better than dealing with the public day in and day out.It exists but until recently it’s not been referred to as DEI.
