Denton and Gorton by-election - Green Party wins

using the same tactics as the SWP did in Rochdale to get Muslim support.
"Zack Polanski: Greens to use anger over Gaza to win Gorton & Denton
Green leader to raise his party’s position on the conflict to win Muslim votes in the by-election as Keir Starmer warns of a ‘toxic’ fight with Reform"
That's not really the angle I've been seeing in the Green's election literature. They've mainly been saying Labour have no chance of winning, by publishing dubious graphs and quoting Rob Ford out of context. Not a great tactic in my humble, they'd be better off putting out a positive message.

I'm not sure the greens will get as much of the Muslim vote as they think, either, using this method of campaigning. The "straw poll" method of how many households are showing party colours, shows radical change in this election in both Longsight and Levenshulme, but in different ways. I've never seen so few Labour signs and window posters in 23 years living in this area, but whereas in Leve they've been largely replaced by Green ones, in Longsight they haven't been replaced by anything. A walk through the back streets of Longsight the other day yielded just 2 Green and 2 Labour households. Of course it may be they're just keeping their powder dry, as is everyone's prerogative, but I suspect disinterest.

Happy with my Lib Dem MP since he was elected. The drains are being cleared again, he's kiboshed the Labour idiots plans to put big plant pots in the middle of the road. Actually lives in my constituency. It's a shame they haven't campaigned for this seat as for me they are clearly the only party that hasn't gone full send on divisive bullshit.
I must admit that I find it surprising that the Lib Dens have so little support in this constituency. Not only is it totally out of kilter with how well they did in the General Election, Jackie Pearcey is standing for the Lib Dems and she’s done some great work round here in the past. I’m surprised that seems to be counting for so little.

The Lib-Dems have always been a minor player in Gorton. I am native to the soil, and remember when there was a huge Labour club and a large Tory one. The Liberals were round the back of someone's terraced house. The back gate was painted orange and lettered Liberal Club.

I think we are in a strange period and the Lib dems don't currently have anything that is drawing people in. I do like Ed Davey though even if his politics aren't my cup of tea.

I mean the username was a kind of give away as regards your age ;-)
But it's no excuse for forgetting the fundamentals ...

I read the Beast was 94 last week, appropriately he anointed Richard Burgon to succeed him as chief Socialist purifier. The grim truth is that the cost of the Labour welfare state for all its high ideals proved too much and the standard of living in most of Europe that didn't follow that noble path is now well ahead of ours. We signally failed to modernize our industry when others rebuilt theirs from scratch in the crucial post war period. I even started a thread about this on here.

Corelli Barnett's books are crucial for an understanding of how we got where we are. They are not easy reads, in any sense, but I recommend them to all who are literate. In places, they are jaw-dropping.

A crucial error was not to join the European Coal and Steel Community when it was founded. But there are many other errors, some for all political tastes. The staggering incompetence of the British state is nothing new. Anyone who thinks it can easily be sorted is deluded.

fucking hell - starter jobs - shops and hotels - automatic check-in and self check out tills are two examples of why those job's are not there. Its not taxation is AI.

The cheapest bill is the one you don't pay is a good line.

Interesting opening from Goodwin - high street vape shops and Turkish barbers - predictable. The attack on Hannah Spencer is really crude - the idea he has done manual labour exists solely in his mind.

Nick Buckley is great comedic value - a Reform Ltd tribute act - the Rejoin guy has his heart in the right place as far as I am concerned but in reality its naive to think we can walk back in to the EU.

Disappointed that Goodwin's claim that 200k people have entered the country illegally was not challenged - last year it was just over 40k assuming you agree with the term illegal when applied to asylum seekers.

Goodwin starts out with claiming a working class background and brought up by a single mum then claims his Dad ran the NHS in Manchester - make your fucking mind up story teller

I'll be honest I thought the SDP was over years ago. I know its a laugh but at the moment Sir Oink A Lot is in bad taste. People are having problems and a cosplay pig isn't right.

Goodwin has problems with people who commit violence - what are his views on football violence? Basically a Far Right Trope using the Manchester bombing as a political football. Again not challenged when he claims never to have said people not born in Britain are not British -

I am a dyed in the woll Labour voter - never missed a vote and only once voted LD to keep a Tory out and in this instance if I lived there I'd vote Green

If you lived here you'd know that voting Labour is the only way to stop Fuhrage.
