I thought all our captain choices we have played with desire, energy, and led by example last night. We may not be playing at our highest levels but there is no doubting the desire is still there. Had to fight for those 3 points and fight we did. Bernardo laying into people twice his size is the epitome of that.
Absolutely. They really need to learn how to win.2nd time we have played Marmoush, Haaland and Semenyo as a front three. They really need to learn how to play with each other as they keep invading each others space.
Christ I wondered why West Ham players had brushes. Most bizarre scene of the night; mass cheering in the concourse as hundreds of footy fans watch curling on the tv screens pre-match.
Game’s gone, game’s gone I tell ya.
Khusanov is outstandingI thought all our captain choices we have played with desire, energy, and led by example last night.
Who knows what this season will bring if we carry on in that mood.
What a January signing Guehi is turning out to be.
Good to hear pep saying Khusanov will ve here at City for a long long time.CTID
Compare and contrast with the Match (suicide) day thread.Arrived back home in Radcliffe after being stuck on the blue car park for over an hour.
Thought the performance tonight was the best over all for some time. As others have said in this and the MOTM thread there were some really good performances tonight. Guehi has really strengthened the defence. Khusanov was excellent in the second half and certainly no drop off from Ruben. NOR and Erling were top class with Donna doing what he does when required. The only slight gripe is that Semenyo wasn't at his best tonight. However everyone is allowed an off day now and then.
Let's hope the Spuds can do us a favour later on today.
If this is Bernie's last season with us. To see him lift the PL trophy would be the best send off.Numerous standout performers tonight with Guehi, Khusanov, O'Reilly, Haaland ect...
BUT...Bernardo Silva is leading by example, he's the go to man over the last number of months with his performances.
He's an absolute warrior and deservedly wearing that captains armband.
Oh definitely, but Ederson was quicker to see and receive an angled pass.Keeps the ball out the net miles better than Ederson ever did.
I'd love nothing more than watching Bernie lift that title, he deserves it and what a send off it would be for him.If this is Bernie's last season with us. To see him lift the PL trophy would be the best send off.
I also want a statue of his dipper guard of honour pose.
One million percent mate.If this is Bernie's last season with us. To see him lift the PL trophy would be the best send off.
I also want a statue of his dipper guard of honour pose.
His save from that late Harvey Barnes effort isn't getting enough credit...What a keeper we have
The match day thread is what it is as people are invested in the game and therefore more emotional in their reactions. The same applies with responses in the post match thread when the adrenaline is still having an effect. It is only later on when things have calmed down that reactions and comments become more objective.Compare and contrast with the Match (suicide) day thread.
Second half drop off is just because our squad is made up of brand new (mostly v young) players and not fully fit veterans. Peps said he needs his old heads, Bernardo, Rodri, Dias, Haaland on the pitch as much as possible in those tough moments to stop us collapsing like Spurs. So he feels he has to keep them on for their leadership but Bernardo looked knackered early after a very end to end first half and Rodri still isn’t fully match fit and moving like he was pre injury.
So we end up with no real midfield, not able to hold onto the ball.
The only solution is for the new players to get more familiar with the system so they know how to react to the opposition changing things up and get through tough games like this so Pep trusts them more and he can use the bench for fresh legs.
I assume Nico G is not fully fit yet because he clearly earns Peps trust in the last year and it seemed an obvious sub to bring him on for either Rodri or Bernardo in the second half.
I don’t think the problem will fully resolve itself until next season. It had been getting better and better until today though.
