Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I'm curious why VAR deemed Ramsey not to have interfered with Donna's eyeline so quickly here... The second clip shows the ball going right by him while being undisputedly offside.

Weird, too, that Donna didn't protest. Think that might have caused a second look. Just a BS goal that really sucked out the momentum. Even though they get the response quickly, feel like if that don't get that first one then City gets a second and kills game at 2-0.

Created enough chances to score 3/4. Thought Marmoush/Semenyo was very poor. Doku will come straight back into the team. Newcastle barely created a chance. Another win boxed off 11 to go.

I thought City were brilliant in the 1st half although Gordon's pace on the counter was a problem.

The 2nd half we had chances to make the game safe but didn't take them, hence it became nervy. In some cases like Ait-Nouri we didn't even get a shot off so it wouldn't have registered in the xG.

The 2-1 scoreline was fair really because Newcastle did carry a goal-scoring threat.

Atmosphere was the best it has been this season. Newcastle were a good opponent. They should be a top 6 side.

Without his touch, it was probably in.

As fans we have to realise we ain’t that treble winning team anymore and the premier football has changed and PGMOL to both have decided to let “contact” in games go, let players drag players down from corners! You watch how Newcastle played last night for me it was a throw back to the 80/90/00’s with every set piece Newcastle had they put all there players in our box and went for % football! We also for some reason kept hoofing it from Donno for me that’s fair enough but if that is the instructions you have to win at least 70% of those long balls or you will be under a lot of pressure! Newcastle made it like a cup game they never stopped pressing running!

We have 6 away games left yeah we better than early season but our away record is W6 D3 L4 so now coming into the must win games wonder how many we will win or points we pick up out of 18 points?

One team had played away in Europe, One team had a week off
Look i am happy as a pig in shit about the win, But i did fear this from City being sluggish and our 2nd half performance all season and tonight is wrong

We needed the points more than the performance, but I also think a 90-minute performance would send the message that we have more to come and we are ready. Arsenal will see that 2nd half tonight and fancy a fight against us

Funny Arsenal didn’t get over the line at wolves we got over the line with a win! Doesn’t matter it’s about 3 points! The league is different we as a team are not the treble team! Teams know push up on us play man on man rush Donno he will launch it then it’s a 50/50 ball! This they played midweek is a red herring now if it was the usual tnt game like we have had plenty of times and it was 12:30 not 8pm yep maybe it effect Newcastle! What we all forgot now is teams can change half there outfield players now! So energy levels can stay high!?

Feel us fans have to get our head around we are a different team now!

But should we not be better fitness-wise in the 2nd half ? Newcastle had an away trip in Europe and City had a week off. Yes I understand this team is a new build and the new players will need to find what it takes to be in a title race
But the 2nd half drop off is a problem.

VERY big win and Arsenal vs Spurs tomorrow could be the key to the title race

Newcastle team ran 0.5km more than us we 113.51km Newcastle 114.05km

Great win, not a good performance but who cares.
However there is definitely an issue with 2nd half performances.
I thought yesterday that we would coast through the game as we had a weeks rest and toon had a long trip in midweek.
But again we struggled, the question is why does is keep happening.

$1 million question, maybe Pep can explain?

Teams look fitter than us, Newcastle did and they'd barely had any rest time since Wednesday night. We're linping through at the minute and will need all our players back for the final push

Great first half, with the second half being a shocker again. The points are what matter but I can’t understand why we come out from dressing room and seem to forget how to control the game.

We won't be the finished article for a couple of seasons yet but it's beginning to look good.
We are spoilt by years of unbelievable players. Some of the breaks in the second half I was left thinking my god what would Kevin or David or Leroy done with that chance. You are right though, another season or so of playing together and they will be fine.

Also if we put even one of those chances away most of this shit second half talk gets put to bed.

This is still a team closer to the middle of its rebuild than the end. Last season was an abnormality that came about after achieving something *no-one ever has*. I'm counting this as year 1 of the rebuild, in which by any normal metric you wouldn't be expected to be competing for the league, and yet we're only 2 points behind the leaders.

A lot centers around how many years Pep really has left of course, rather than just what his contract says at any given moment in time, but things feel like they're shaping up pretty well.
