Fan channels

I dont expect anyone to believe me, but for me it's genuinely just the case that I enjoy chatting to people and about things I love, and I enjoy creating things. I've been like that since I was a kid. It's a compulsion. I'm an incredibly sociable person and I find chatting about City on videos an awful lot of fun. It's something that comes natural to me.

I'm of course biased, but I do think there's value in them to an extent. We're all incredibly busy and it's nice to have someone chat City that you like listening to. A sort of parasocial relationship, but that's 2026. I think overseas fans are less likely to have fellow city supporting mates too so it helps them feel a little more informed. I think the appeal is that we're inherently social creatures and these fan channels fill a tiny gap for some people. It is what it is.

Ultimately, as with anything, there are good examples and there are bad examples of these things. I tend to feel we should just let people enjoy what they like and not worry about it. we all like different things.

I watch Typical City , very good passionate and informative .
Big Steve , love him proper Manc .

It’s quite easy to see which are the authentic ones and which are the performative.

You can then filter out the ones you want to watch and ignore the ones that you don’t.

Barring the odd rage watch.
 
We watch every big steve and mutton episode. We also watch Mcinerney and Mcfc lads, very occasionally nobbins.
All for it myself - the more the merrier, and the more variety there is the more likely City fans will be able to watch something they like.

We barely watch any normal tv these days so watch most stuff on youtube so we do find ourselves watching a lot of the fan channels
 
I used to really like watching CityXtra when Jordan and LB were doing it, they were great especially in Covid yrs. Not sure what caused their bust up but watched LB a while on his channel. Don’t watch anymore.

I think they are all just performative bullshit now. Just doing everything for clicks and therefore cash. Its mostly international viewers/fans who seem to watch and keep them employeed.

I absolutely cannot stand all the “reaction” video shit. Its fake?!

Pretty shocked to read some people watch fucking Saeeds channel??! He is right dick. It was LB doing stupid videos of Saeeds “meltdowns” which stopped me watching any more.

Agree Big Steve a good egg and does a good job representing City Fans out there.

I think football YouTube is getting like football twitter. Bleurgh.

As someone who was heavily involved in the fanzine movement I agree.
However, I'd like to ask how many of these fan channels would you watch if you had to pay to watch?
Fanzines came and went. If no one was buying them (as they were shite) they folded. These fan channels earn their money by the amount of free viewers they have which in turn attracts advertising.
 
Typical City for me. He's grown into it. Analyses the games well and is genuinely entertaining. I have a short attention span so like to be entertained at the same time. For something a bit different that NewGorkCity guy on YouTube makes me laugh. For the local perspective Big Steve is great too and so is MCFC lads. The majority of the rest I find a bit boring.

I'm not sure what is about him; I'm sure he's kind to animals, gives up his seat on the bus to little old ladies and donates to "charidee", but I just can't warm to him. And no; I'm sure he doesn't give a toss what I think of him. Why should he?


Also, shooting off at a tangent here; what's with these "watchalong" videos? Why would you want to watch someone watching the game as it's taking place? I'll watch the "highlights" clips later on of them imploding, but that's as far as I'll go.
