Will we win the league this season? No

It was genuinely incredible today. Every Chelsea player either bear hugged or wrestled to the floor at every corner, offensive or defensive. How they’re allowed to get away with it, without censure, is beyond belief. Regardless of its impact on their title rivals, what they’re doing is making a complete mockery of the game. The world’s prime footballing competition reduced to a farcical wrestling match….
When you look at that penalty for United today, how on earth is that classed as a penalty, and yet you see every single player doing a lot worse at every single corner?

Not even just an Arsenal thing, I just dont understand why you can get away with it just because its a corner

If you slow down every corner, there are 'fouls' on almost every player, and yet the only fouls given are for the defending team

Very little room for error, think we'll have to beat them at our place.

Cliche but for us it's just 1 game at a time, got to give ourselves a chance when we play them.

A few seasons ago there was a big pre-season announcement that there would be a massive clampdown on holding at corners. Since then it seems to have got worse and worse.
The other point regarding this is that judging the 'severity' of the offence is subjective and thus can be used and abused to influence match results.
I don't know why the ball doesn't become active at the referees whistle for these things, and then you can punish accordingly. Just cuts out all the bullshit.

Pep legacy - total pure football. Playing out from the back.
Artita legacy - Dead ball/set pieces and wrestling matches in the penalty area.

If Arteta footy becomes the norm I’ll stop watching.

I think if they win at Brighton they'll end up getting it over the line. Everybody looked at the Chelsea and Brighton games where we thought they'd drop points and they've got through one of them. There again Wolves showed is no game can be 100% prediced. Forest is a banana skin for us, they're playing well and have been a bit unlucky lately. They played Liverpool off the park.
I know you can't really predict games but our run in on paper is tougher. Chelsea and Everton away, Brentford and Villa at home are four very hard games. If Arsenal are still ahead of us when we play them they will shitehouse a draw at least. The City of old would have done this, i just feel with bedding in all the new players this season might just be a bit early to do it.

If we can’t beat Forest at home in a title run in we don’t deserve to win anything.

The City of old stuff is doing my fucking box in. The City of Old is an evolving thing. There is no City of old. We transition, we evolve and we bring the so City of old into said revolution. It’s like some fans compartmentalise our progress. And progress is what it is.

Here’s one. Have we missed last seasons KDB? I don’t think so. He dragged himself over the line into his farewell. Infact I recall plenty of posts saying he was done. We won nothing, not that that’s a bad thing. We can’t win something every year.

We are in March and we have a stake in every single compo, handsomely so.

It was the start of the 2016 season. Sterling gave one away for lightly holding whilst not looking at the ball :).
Like all Premier League initiatives it lasted a fortnight.

Big difference with Arsenal though - while City hadn't won a title race before in 2012, we hadn't lost one either.

We had no experience to draw on but crucially we also had no trauma from past losses to haunt us, only Mancini's ability to just about manage the emotional basics of winning a league (from his experience in Serie A). Since their last title in 2004, Arsenal have thrown it away in 2008, 2014, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

2008 - top after 29 games, finished 3rd
2014 - top after 24 games, finished 4th
2023 - top after 33 games, finished 2nd
2024 - top after 36 games, finished 2nd
2025 - won five of their last 12 games

They have a big reputation for not getting it over the line - especially with this set of players under this manager - and it will be playing on their minds whenever the chips are down. It'll get to the fans especially. Nervy moments are part and parcel of a title race and there is strong evidence that Arsenal can't cope with them.
We also had the muscle memory of a good run-in in 2011, not only finishing in the Champions League places but even pipping arsenal to third place on the final day, along with breaking the trophy jinx

Agree. If they beat Brightom then it becomes quite tough for us. They will have 5H 3A games left. Its difficult to see where they drop points. We have to best them at home and also get pretty much maximum points from West Ham, Chelsea, Everton and Bournemouth away. I feel we'll be annoying 3- 4 points short.

Like many others on here, in my younger days (many moons ago, I might add) I played football at a reasonable amateur level. In those days it was taboo to pull at an opponent's shirt let alone grab and wrestle him to the ground. We wouldn't even think of it. Nowadays it seems to be the natural thing to do. The LOTG prohibit it, so why on earth is this foul play constantly permitted ? It's turned into a game for cheats and it really does my head in at times.

It’s almost a though there is no pressure in a title race and points are guaranteed

I think fixture list gazing is pretty pointless at this stage of the season. Did anybody expect Arsenal to drop points in previous title races to Southampton, Bournemouth, West Ham? No, but they did. This league is one where any team can beat any other. If not for a couple of miracles (called Aguero and De Bruyne) we would've found that out for ourselves in 2012 and 2022.

I would say we're at roughly 30% odds of winning it at the moment. Arsenal still favourites, but while we can still say "win all of our games and there's nothing Arsenal can do about it" then I'll still think there's a chance. This City team always has me believing the impossible is possible.

If, when all is said and done, we fall short and come 2nd, you know I wouldn't be that upset. Great improvement on last year, very young team, deep in four competitions, a year when everybody wrote us off as "rebuilding". Bodes very well for the future.
