Nottingham Forest (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Just got back from the match and reading some very OTT reaction.

I have never thought we would be good enough to win the title this year and didn’t get carried away after the last few wins.

We are in transition and have made some progress from the ‘fall off the cliff ‘ team of last season, however we still lack some real quality, especially in Midfield….I’m sure Anderson would be a good addition btw.

Sad to see Foden struggling…..he is no longer a game changer and he doesn't get into the side when everyone is fit.

For all the flack Savinho has come in for on today’s thread, I thought he looked ok when he came on and at least was able to beat his man.

It would be a totally different match thread had we grabbed the winner right at the end….small margins !

I think 4 in a row has spoilt some people who have become very entitled !
It would be a very different match thread if we had grabbed a winner...not because of small margins bit because some can't see the wood for the trees.

We ain't played well all season...somevof tge current squad are not good enough.

There is a real lack of quality which we will struggle to get back as some of that lack of quality is in the newer players

Arsenal had zero big chances had less of the ball, Brighton had two big chances. While we had 5 chances, robbed of a pen or two, and we don’t get the 3 points.

I think it’s a miracle we won so many titles.

Darren England and the league must’ve have tried so many times to stop us. We had to reach insane levels.

The most unfair game I’ve experienced and I’m usually a calm person. Today I really couldn’t believe my eyes.

There’s no point in blaming anyone the team lost, everyone couldn’t finish their dinner.

I just wish this team didn’t keep flip flopping between being a good team and a title winning team, playing with the fans emotions.

I don’t really know where we go from here. They clearly want it but they’re just not good enough, I don’t believe Arsenal are either. Strange season. We have no business winning this title with the games we’ve drawn and lost to this season but they made me believe.

Back to domestic cup competitions

Supporting City is like having a beautiful girlfriend who's fantastic in bed and amazing to be with, but is also moody as hell, costs a small fortune on dates and then stands you up.
And pisses in the sink when you are sat bombing Dresden

Why did we start playing a lot quicker last 5 mins and then injury time why not be like that earlier in the game ..
It used to work. Back in the day (not so long ago) in the odd game we were in need of a late winner we could flip a switch and pump the goal and come up with the goods.

We simply aren't that team anymore especially when it comes to the grit and attitude it requires to shift into that gear.

If we’d nicked a winner, this thread would read completely different. That’s football. Fine margins change everything and people forget the bigger picture when the result doesn’t go our way.

Truth is, this squad needs time. We’ve got new lads in, different roles, different partnerships - that doesn’t just click overnight. You can’t build understanding in five minutes. We’ve got to let them gel, let them grow into it and see what it can become. Writing half of them off already helps nobody.

And honestly, are Arsenal really that much better than us? They get results, fair enough, but it’s hardly great to watch. Sitting with 10 or 11 behind the ball against teams they should be taking the game to? It’s proper turgid at times. How many games have they recently been very lucky in - Spurs goal disallowed, Chelsea not given a penalty and tonight with the poor goalkeeping for their goal and the Brighton stone wall penalty not given. You say there's a real lack of quality, but I'll argue that there's a real lack of quality in the world of football today. I can't name 10 world class players in today's football. I could name 50 in the 90's without hesitation.

I’d rather give this group time and see us try to play the right way than panic every time we drop points. It’s a process and it won’t sort itself out by everyone losing their heads when we don't win.

Darren England is the biggest wanker on the face of this planet. Appalling referee. He was determined not to give us anything.
He has made so many disastrous decisions since 2023, even a week ago in the Everton game. But he is still allowed to do his job I don’t understand it.

there was a problem in the midfield, and the wings in the second half. before the second forest goal, it is very obvious that the whole right side only covered by Nunes himself. not a single help running back and we were defending a 2:1 lead. the first forest goal has the same lack of urgency feeling too. few people coming back to help defending.

the team is obviously tired and covered more milage in the past games than any other opponent. but the team lack control and stability so there is no other way of seeing off a game other than running while exhausted.

Keep seeing this about Arsenal being bottlers, but we've got within a couple points twice now this season and fluffed our lines. Once in the New Year when we drew 3 in a row and tonight. Maybe its us who ain't got the minerals at the moment?
How many times do we have to throw away points from winning positions for fans to realise we are the "bottlers" this season?

Arsenal and anyone else is irrelevant. Our squad is not the quality needed. a lot of it is down to the newer players Donarumma and guehi aside. Our football is also turgid and some players lack technical ability and quality.

This is based not on one game but the whole season and last season

This team just arent that good....the reason we are still close is cause the league in terms of quality is pretty poor this season
Our style of football is now built on control with little to no creativity....

We are no longer getting the best out of Haaland....we create very little in terms of chances for him at all. This box formation we have to fit Semenyo and Haaland into the team isnt very good....solid most of the time but turgid and stale going forward...Semenyo cant play wide either by the looks of it....or Pep wont play him wide....not sure which

Combine that with players who just arent as good as everyone thinks (so no depth off the bench)....

We have too many single moment players who are not consistent throughout the match...Semenyo, Reijnders, Cherki being 3 big ones....They have moments of brilliance or scoring a goal but do nothing for the rest of the match....Dias at the back is also inconsistent.
Foden underperforming as well (but again the formation isnt helping him)
Fullbacks who dont stop crosses - again tonight with the first goal.

No natural width is also killing us....our fullbacks are supposed to create that but dont often enough.

Loads of possession but doing very little
Bang on this…

We are a team that can produce performances and moments, away wins at Madrid and Pool prove it. What we absolutely don’t have is players that can be consistently top level. week in week out, and that’s what wins you the league.

Controlling games has become an obsession to the detriment of attacking intent, whilst still managing somehow to concede stupid goals.

Whilst some of the more recent signings offer hope, I’m still not sure which direction we are heading.
Donna, and Geuhi are the end game for their positions, but we have so many areas of the team that are lacking that special quality needed.

Then you have to handle the issue of trying to convince Haaland et al, this is the place to keep playing your football in the long term.

I think 2nd with this squad is actually pretty good, it’s just frustrating we didn’t do better business post treble, as the teams filing the vacuum we left, are pretty average as well!

It would be a bonus if we can win a trophy and give some of the old guard a nice send off, but we are some way off the EC and prem , and results like this just hammer it home.

They don't even pretend to look at our pen appeals. Any against us and game stops ten mins and FBI brought in to forensically check all angles.
If they didn't look at our pen appeals how come they announced the VAR decision of at least one of them?

I dunno. At 2-2 it didn't feel like City of old. There was that bit right at the end - that was the only part I got excited. It should have been that from 2-2. It's hard, man, with how these teams set up. And the risk from the counter. But I dunno, something felt lacking fight wise.

Cherki and Phil in midfield just doesn't work.
Boy did we miss Oreilly last night.
Forest have 3 players i would sign for City and it showed.
Spurs could seriously get relegated cause Forest are good enough to finish them. CTID

for me Semenyo aint techincally good enough to play not if we play Haaland as well in the same starting 11.

Reis - aint worth discussing till he has played a season in the prem at least

Agree on Khusonov
I was a big proponent of signing him in the summer and when he came in Jan, I said bare with the lad cos technically he’s way below what we were accustomed to, but you will get more goals and assists than we have from our other wide options.

We’ve just had this incredible 7 or 8 years with a team full of players that could do everything, back to reality now with players that have strengths and weaknesses.
