47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

I think a loan to sunnny climes would do our Phil good, maybe a winter at Bodo/Glimt or some place in Siberia where it drops to -40. After all he’s one of our own.

Must have been watching a different game than others on here , tonight he was showing for the ball and not hiding , he had an OK first half but looked jaded after the break and should have been subbed earlier , his confidence is shot at the moment and he desperately need a goal to help him along the way back.
Phil Foden is a superb footballer and will be back with a vengeance , people writing him off as the next Dele Ali can only make him more determined

I thought he started really well and faded badly. Probably should have come off sooner but Pep doesn’t trust Reijnders or Nico G and that’s not Fodens fault.

A lot of our best attacks in the first half came from Foden to Semenyo and Foden to Haaland.

I really don’t understand what is going on with one of the most naturally gifted players I have seen in my lifetime. But it’s sad to watch, especially as he’s one of our own. Given his early career path he is now entering his prime years and should be the star of the league but he’s fucking it up. Starting to think I was wrong about him :(

He is a conundrum. Played okish but made zero impact. Constantly running back with the ball or receiving it from Rodri/defence and just passes it back.

Still a tidy player but ineffective. What to do here is tricky? Can’t give him a new deal on this form, maybe a move is best. He starts ripping it up again and the club will look stupid. Get your act together please so we don’t have to make the decision.

He was supposed to be the one, to take us forward after Kev. It’s not going to happen, is it?

No goals, no assists, nothing.

Going against the grain here....he played fine, good even.

The Anderson goal was very poor, granted.

But he was pretty good up until that point. Should have had an assist. Made some nice runs.

Don't waste your time, mate. People have their pitchforks out, and much as we see with Rico, whether you agree he's good enough or not, they will nit-pick every single action they make from now on. You watch, NOR will be next.

The fact that people are blaming the second goal, any of them really, on Phil, when there were like 2 minutes of play between the time he lost it, and they scored, says it all. Everyone is reaching far too hard to push their agenda.

He's a product of playing under Pep and his system.

When we are doing well, Phil looks good. When we struggle, he doesn't look good.

That's precisely why he's not great for England. Nothing to do with all the players around him or blaming the England manager. The reality is that he's played under one man for all his senior pro career and probably been the most heavily coached player to work in that system. Remove him from a working Pep system and he's a fish out of water.

If he left to go to another club, he would probably look half the player.

Talented boy for sure but he's had one specific way of approaching football drilled into him since he emerged in the full team and now I think he's reliant on that system to be working very well for him to shine.

Knew we’d struggle when I saw Phil on the pitch abc that’s bad . Shouldn’t be starting games .

Does he deserve a big new contract doubling his wages? Sentiment possibly, form and application definitely not.

A shadow of his former self.

Mental midget whose career will spiral even more once he gets excluded from the World Cup squad.
Mental midget? Fucking hell. Interesting that’s only your 16th post. We do welcome non-City fans but there’s an expectation that you’re at least civil.

I think Foden has been crap for a long while now, but can’t understand the personal insults.

We tend to get a lot of these supposed "City fans" on here after a poor result. Coincidence? Hmm.

Previously, selling foden would have been unthinkable.
I think he has got 1 more season to get back towards his best and if not then it's probably time for him to move on.

If he is on the bench at weekend and we are losing, how many people will be calling for foden to come on to save us?

I love Phil, he’s given us some incredible moments and is a true city lad. He’s talked about mental struggles so I don’t think a pile on would help. But he and Pep clearly know this isn’t the Phil of old.

Constructively though, I don’t think Phil has the tools in his locker to do the cm role. In the modern PL a lot of the game is about physicality, the ability to win the ball and duels in the middle. Phil’s game has never been about that and it’s unfair to think it, he doesn’t have that dog in him that say a Nico O’Reilly does.

I think he either has to be a false 9 or on the wings, let’s not forget some of the goals he’s scored for us, coming inside and smashing them into the top corner. You don’t lose that.

Yes, his game hasn’t evolved to where we wanted but he still has those nice touches, the ability to drive passed players and is one of our best finishers.

Confidence is such an important thing, being mentally well and in the right frame of mind is fundamental too. He’s given us too much to be written off and talked about the way he currently is. Let’s not turn into fickle United fans. We are better than that.

This is so sad, until the 20/21 season, I legitimately believed either Foden or KDB would be the first city player to win the Ballon d'Or. Then time slips away, and we're witnessing this current version of him right now.

He's already at the age of 25, players at that age should be entering their prime, and yet we still can't figure out what his best position is. And that's not because he's so good at multiple positions so that it's hard to pick. But it's because he's been regressed to a player who's bang average at every position. Rather than his poor form, I'm worried about his identity as a player.

I guess the club wants him to develop into our midfield eventually, but I'm afraid it might just not work. It's been 9 years since his debut, yet he's still a player that has poor special awareness, isn't capable of controlling the tempo, and is too weak to hold the ball. The only advantage he has ahead of our other midfielders is his pressing. Besides that, he does very little. Many times you can see him asking for the ball, and would just immediately pass it back or make some bad decisions due to his poor special awareness and incapability to react under pressing.

I think at this point, him staying with this team wouldn't be very beneficial for his personal development. I truly believe Pep is the best manager in the world, but the time for Foden glowing up under Pep is long gone. For his own career, he needs a new environment.
