West Ham United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

After the drubbing in Madrid, I was expecting more of a statement from the team. The first hour disappointed. We got livelier and a lot more creatively dangerous when Cherki and Doku subbed in.

I can understand managing game time for players who are fasting (Cherki, RAN, Marmoush, Khusanov) and those just returning from injury (Doku, Savinho). But it feels like their selections have been mismanaged in the past two games.

This game begged for the guile of Cherki in the 10 position, because we all knew the game would be played in the final third as West Ham would put their entire team in the box and defend for their lives. Instead we had three strikers with no one to feed them.

I think I might have finally reached that point where you have to face the fact that all good things come to an end

Pep had given us things we’ll be grateful for forever and will never ever forget. He will be the best manager we’ve ever had in our history

But his time is up. It’s gone stale. It’s not working anymore

We need a young, energetic manager with fire in his belly.. who will bring new ideas and invigorate the team

Come home Vinny.. it’s your time
I'm beginning to think the same and I feel awful for thinking it as I still love Pep for bringing us all those magical moments :-(

To be quite honest about Doku (that ball aside)...He's bang average. He can go past players all he likes, it's his end product that's the issue, from when he joined originally to the present day his end product hasn't got any better.

Going from Sterling and Mahrez to Doku and Savinho isn't just a gap, it's a fucking canyon.
Prime Peter Barnes for me

Suppose Pep will be enjoying pizza with friends this evening. After talking gibberish in his press conference. We really are a damp squid this season. Flashes of a good team in some games followed by pure averageness in others. Arsenal have been nailed on for the league for months in my book, bit like Liverpool last season. Next season maybe improvement but the days of dominating the league are well and truly over.

Imagine seeing Doku and sav, and thinking ‘yeah’ these are just the wide players we need.

I hope this person/persons has long been relieved of his scouting duties.

Hope I see Pepijn Lijnders & Kolo Toure first out the door as well. Both absolutely fucking useless, still find it mad how how Kolo Toure could fail so much at Wigan & end up as a coach with us
This goes under the radar, both have done f all to effect our play. Both are a joke

Short memories about the critical comments
that they got on here Mahrez was known as FFS and Sterling was hammered if he dint score a hatrick

Tactics and football have changed. We have gone from every team being relatively equal to some teams being very wealthy and elite. High wages, high expectation. We are, very fortunately, among them. Other teams have now developed tactics to counter the elite, just pack the box and defend and hope for a breakaway or free kick. It's effective. The elite teams need to develop tactics to counteract those tactics. The elite teams that do so will be the most successful. i.e Arsenal have "noticed" that elite teams tend to get more free kicks, throw ins and corners and have adjusted their tactics to make the most of that advantage. We need to innovate and innovate differently every game, we are just too predictable. Most of us know what we are going to do, bring some chaos into the equation, shock us, shock the opposition.

How do you know they are?
Kolo is just a cheerleader for player morale the Brian Kidd replacement

So, have I got this right? We win our game in hand and beat Arsenal and it's down to 3 points?

Yes....and if i pick the right six numbers on the lottery i could be a millionaire. The odds on doing so are fourteen million to.one, or something like that.....about as much chance of that scenario happening. Even if it did it's still out of our hands.

They had one attempt from a corner NONE from open play our expect goals was 2.12 v 0.54 nearly 4x so yeah we were
I know about XG and the rest but thought that was a measure of goalscoring chances created, not goals scored. I was taking about the goals scored department.
