Real Madrid (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

How many mistakes did Real Madrid make over the two ties? Very few if any. Mistakes in both legs cost us though, particularly in Madrid. That's why we are out.

Time for some serious questions to be asked.

Marmoush not good enough.
Reijnders WTF
Erling cross the fucking ball to him or might as well sell.
O reilly Keep
Kovacic keep
Lewis sell
We have the makings of a decent side but we must get the recruitment right this summer.
We have been truly blessed over the last 18 yrs we can now either push on or fall into the pack.
We consider ourselves a big club now and what we are seeing noe is not good enough.
People keep banging on about York away and div 2 and remember how it was. That is not a valid argument anymore.
Any way the crowd proved they were elite tonight as did Kush nd Cherki.
keeps

Don,
Geuhi
Rodri
Haaland
Gvardiol

Keep as have potential
Khusanov
Cherki - just

The rest are never going to be the required level. So sell based on offers.

Well played to the excellent Khus and Cherki. We salvaged a degree of respect after last week's debacle, but overall, we're still far too slow and laboured. The tie was dead after 20 minutes so well done to the crowd for keeping the faith.

Jury was out on whether Bernardo should get a statue, and if we get trophies this season, that's stll possible, but unlikely.

After tonight though, any statue has to be in the Venus de Milo style.

Damage was done first leg with a baffling setup that threw the tie away.

Until the sending off we looked decent but for the first 15 minutes against them at the Bernabeu and against West ham, we looked decent too. not convinced it would have been anything but a similar story had it remained 11v11.

Showed some good fight once we were down to 10 men, they didnt stop playing or trying, although it has to be said, Madrid were very content to just let us try and play without ever being in any danger.

Bayern would be heavy favourites against either side,we never stood a chance of winning it this year so no great loss to go out earlier than anticipated.

There will be some good spirit to take into the weekend which is kind of a must win for us as our best and possibly only chance of silverware this season, obvious worry is how much playing for 75 minutes will take out of the players but we wisely took off key players so hopefully won't have too much of an impact. Make amends sunday.

We’re miles off the standards we were sadly … this lot haven’t got the minerals.

Surprised to see comments like this. Thought they played very well tonight after the red. Exciting to see how guys like Doku, Khus, RAN, Cherki be so good for the future of this team.

Think Haaland still looks miles off it, whereas Real looked terrified of Marmoush so maybe Moose deserves a proper look at some point.

Proud of the lads. I think it's fair to say if we hadn't got a red we should have won that.

Donna, kept us in the game
Khusanov is the real deal. Motm
Bernardo couldn't help it.
Rodri very good.
Doku v good

Our shooting was poor. Too poor, we're losing games because of it.

Still peed off we lost to a poor RM team though. But we face arsenal with a bit more confidence hopefully.

Positives were Doku, Khusanov and the fact we did some good build up play. And 200 ticket points tomorrow for those of us in the cup scheme.
Negatives were our cutting edge and Reijnders who was terrible.
Madrid must have the shittest fans in Europe.

If you're not proud of that performance, football isn't for you.
Bollocks. We showed a lot of spirit and passed the ball quicker but that was all. They were missing a couple of players and didn't have to try but almost matched us for shots on target (8-7) and their xG was 2.93 compared to our 1.91.
It may have been better than some of the crap we've seen in the past 18 months but it was another home defeat albeit in an exciting game.

Why what has Foden done for 18 months ?
Rodri is class but if we could get a decent fee for a player whos best days are behind him and invest it wisely im not against him going.
We were guilty of being too loyal to Gundo,Kev and a few others.
Rodri's 29 and nowhere near past his best.
Foden deserves our support, he's one of us.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime: "It's difficult once you are 4-0 down and playing 10 men against 11. But we did everything."

On what the feeling is about the team's performance: "We have an extraordinary team and extraordinary group of players. The future is bright.

"It's a little bit of a learning. But it should have been 11 against 11. But we never know. Maybe we lose 6-0 but it's a fact.

"[Thibaut] Courtois is a fantastic keeper. First 15-20 minutes was good but after that it was 10 against 11 and it was difficult. In the end, Courtois was the best player on the pitch, so that means how good we were. The feeling is that give me the chance to play 11 against 11.

On Bernardo Silva red card: "Reaction. Instinct. It's a big punishment - penalty and red card."

Now from the turd.

On his 'crying' celebration after goal: "The last time we came here, the Manchester City fans (who put up a banner which read 'Stop crying' after Rodri won the Ballon d'Or in 2024 ahead of the Brazilian) were making fun of me. I wasn't disrespecting City fans but it was a way for me to prove myself to them."

Manchester City's Jeremy Doku, speaking to Amazon Prime: "I feel like we had a lot of chances. We played well, even with ten against 11, especially against a team like Real Madrid it's going to be difficult, but we did well.

"We're disappointed with the loss but it's a hard reality. When you experience the games, it doesn't feel like they were much better than us even though it looks it from the scoreline.

"It's a different Real Madrid [compared to the league phase], but every game is different. The first leg score made them play a bit more defensively, they didn't need to score. They've always had a great team, we know their quality. I feel like we did well today.

"This campaign will teach us some lessons, we will learn a lot for the future ones. We will analyse the game and see what we can do better and then look forward to Sunday.

On Bernardo Silva: "He's our captain, he's the most disappointed of all us. It's not his fault, he tried to defend, we are not angry at it, he's just unlucky."
