Anyone claiming PIP?

My sister claims it. Aged 60 (3 years ago) she got letter to say stopping it as deemed fit for work. She has dementia and some days doesn't even know what day it is. She has a rare blood disorder which means her body struggles to create white blood cells so prone to infections etc which she can't fight.

She was put on job seeker's allowance and was told if didn't show applications for work her money would be stopped

We disagreed with the decision and asked for an appeal.

18 months of fighting and on day of the appeal I faced a panel consisting of Benefits office Dr and lawyer plus member of committee who'd made the decision. They said they were rejecting the appeal due to fact we'd no evidence she couldn't work. She was sitting in next room and they refused to speak to her. If they had they'd have realised what an error it was. Our options were accept the decision or ask for review. I said if I accept she will commit suicide (she'd attempted it previously when she hadn't applied for enough jobs and was told getting no benefits).

I asked for review and 6 months later the PIP got reinstated with her getting her money backdated. I'd been sending her money every month in those 18 months as she couldn't afford to heat and eat

OP, good luck on your journey and hope you get satisfactory result. Go to citizens advice and don't take no for an answer
Glad you got it sorted in the end but if anyone else gets to this sort of level then it becomes almost mandatory to have some professional help in with you. They will come mob handed so sticking a solicitor or perhaps a citizens advice expert who specialises in this will be a massive benefit (no pun intended).

This all day long, I would also use the online forms as you can go back and make corrections and additions when a question further on makes you realise you cocked something up. I've had to do it for the wife for many years and they really can be soul sapping.
Yep. My mrs took one look at the forms and said, 'fuck that I'll do without.'
She was also reluctant to spell out how ill she was as it just upset her and made her even more depressed.

Don't you still get pip if you work ?
We have a lad on about 25k per year. He says he also gets £300 a month pip.

He is actually better of then the lads that do the work ! He isnt capable of doing anything apart from litter picking
Good for the lad, gives him some pride in himself and contributes to society.
When you think about it he pays income tax and NI that probably amounts to £3,500 and gets back about £3,600 so not much of a drain on society.
Shake his hand from me on a great effort.

Yep, mine was the same, not a chance in hell she'd have completed a form without tearing it into confetti. Her ADP is now open ended (I think was the term) with no review date but then we're up in Scotland and it's way better up here for many things. I phoned the Docs this morning and we were sitting in the waiting room 30 minutes later. She's going to tell her sister who's still down there later on and make her curse :)

I can't blame them, it's soul destroying. Thankfully that was a few years ago although there have been a couple of 'reviews' since but now sorted.

No, no and even more no. Get someone to help you fill out the form. Don’t give up on the form because it’s too complicated or too daunting. There’s help out there. I’ve filled the PIP form out twice now, one for my sister and one for my nephew and went with him to his appeal, this after them both being awarded DLA for life but because they changed it to PIP, they both had to apply again.

Ta norm but see my last post

It’s a fucking disgrace that these forms are the way they are. They never used to be like this. It really shouldn’t be that difficult for a person to make a claim for a benefit they NEED!!

I’ve been of work now for 9 months with serious back pain that’s turned out to be age related worn vertebrae at least 3 discs crumbling away, in the process of claiming employment support aid(ESA) I was advised to try claim for pip. After looking at the online claim forms there’s so much to do it’s bewildering. Anyone with similar been awarded even the lower rate pip or am I wasting my time.

I applied and was asked to go for an interview. I got 0 points. I appealed and still got 0 points. Then I gave up. I’m 63 and have arthritis in my ankles that makes walking difficult. I also have Graves Disease. The fact I work 3 days per week seemed to go against me.

Making it to the interview un-aided would've meant a big fat zero.

If you go for an interview,go with a partner or relative and go in a taxi, get the taxi to stop outside the office, they will ask you how have you travelled to the meeting today,if you say bus or car they will ask where you have walked from or parked the car .

I found the application ok and have loads of medical information. I’m under a consultant, endocrinologist and physiotherapist. It was the interview I struggled with. 90 minutes and just this feeling you’re not being believed. My consultant and physiotherapist advised that I keep my weight down and try to keep my legs strong so my ankles don’t bear as much weight. So I have an excercise bike and a rowing machine. I explained in the interview that I use these as advised. This was brought up on my rejection letter. That I can use a rowing machine and bike. So can’t be that bad. Maybe if I sat on the sofa all day, got to 20 stone and couldn’t walk, I’d get it!!

I know. They commented in my rejection letter that I walked to the interview room from reception unaided. Obviously a leg brace and crutch don’t count! It’s almost as if they want you exaggerate everything.

One of the things we were told was my sister could walk length of corridor unaided so passed .They didn't take into account she probably wouldn't have known what day it was, what age age was, what she had for breakfast etc etc if they'd have asked.
