45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

The block is immense.

He has to make up ground and unlucky not to win the ball then.

Then he falls but still gets up.

It’s like a double blow, it’s saying even when he slips he still gets there.

I think Guehi is the perfect balance.

If we get a RB there was be some serious competition across the back

I think for the Salah chance he's just been done by an experienced pro. khus goes to jump for the ball which gives Salah and opportunity to give him a little love and knock him over. Salah's next touch is bad BUT 90% of every other player is still sat on the floor; Khus is still looking for the chance to defend, gets up quick and puts in an incredible block.

I'm going to toot my own horn but I said immediately after his debut this guy is serious. Whilst everyone was applauding Silva for coming deep to collect the ball off him all I saw was him getting in Khusanov's way. He's a serious player because he has great technical skill, is really fast but mostly because he just loves defending - he will do the fancy Dias style blocks, the smash the attacker in the channels and the stuff that won't make the highlight reels and he doesn't do it for show. It's in his blood.

Jesus. This boy is the nuts - speed aside, he is intelligent as fuck.
Exactly, we talk a lot about his speed, but earlier in the post-match press conference, Pep Lijnders emphasized his intelligence.

And we saw it clearly around the hour mark, when Cherki was pressed by Szoboszlai and then Wirtz. Look at how he moved at that moment to create a passing option. Cherki's skill and Khusanov's intelligent movement allowed us to break free from Liverpool's press and even eliminate five players thanks to Khusanov's long pass to Bernardo.

It's even clearer in this 11-second video.

He's the type of kid that would rather die than have us concede a goal. Best centre half at the club now

Are there any attacker faster than him in the world? Definetly there are some, but he can hold his own against most of them.

I reckon going flat out he may be the quickest out there.

He only looks in 3rd gear and he's still smoking quick players.

I did sprint at a decent club level, not saying I'm an expert but I have a good gauge of potential speed just on the eye test.

I think there's a few that might have slightly quicker acceleration over the first few yards. Not sure there's any that'd beat him once he gets moving, which is why his recovery runs when he has space to run into look insane.

I don't bother with stats, there's too many factors on a football pitch in clocking players top speed and make it mean anything.

He's even faster than he looks but he has such a relaxed running style. Where as someone like Walker, Traore etc were clearly putting 100% into their sprint and can look like they're going faster to the eye.

In my opinion, with my little bit of experience, I'd say he would beat prime Walker over 100m, but maybe not over the first 10 or so.

I'd back him to beat any player today over 100m actually, if he really pushed it.

But really, speed is nothing without the intelligence to use it. Luckily he has both.

It's better to be slow and be able to read the play than be quick and using it to bail yourself out because you didn't anticipate the play.

The fact he's smart with that insane speed is going to make him absolutely formidable when he's even more experienced.

It's his recovery pace that is impressive.
