Introducing The Citizens Trust - Manchester City Supporters' Union

Surely £5 is a worthwhile fee to pay to support and have a say in the direction City fans can lead the club on major decisions that affect all fans?
100%
All those (me included) who have been raging at the ticketing policies the last few years need to join. The more people on board the louder the voice. We've got to get through to the greedy bastards making these decisions. Power to the people!

Hi everyone… I think it is time for another name change on Bluemoon.

Historically, Manchester City has stood as one of only a handful of clubs in the Football League which does not have a supporters’ trust. Today, we put that right. I am pleased to introduce you to The Citizens Trust.

The Citizens Trust will be a member-led supporters’ trust, with the mission to advocate with an independent, authentic, accountable voice, for Manchester City supporters present and future, and the Mancunian communities to which our club owes its existence.

City supporters have proven in the past few years that we can secure positive changes when we work together with a strong, unified, collective voice. I can certainly appreciate that from time on City Matters. The Trust is a natural continuation and formalisation of the work that is already being done.

To be involved with the Trust means a great deal to me personally. Around twenty years ago, my dad was heavily involved in a previous attempt to establish a supporters’ trust for Manchester City supporters. I even remember handing leaflets out on Joe Mercer Way before a home match against Fulham, as my dad was being interviewed for Match of the Day.

That Trust fell away for a few reasons - not least the Shinawatra takeover. However, I wanted to pay tribute to those like my dad, Colin Savage, Miles Webber and others who were involved back in 2006.

Their experience has proven instructive in 2026. The previous iteration of a Trust never reached the stage of taking on members. Over recent months, we have worked behind the scenes to ensure that we are able to share a fully fledged Citizens Trust with the fanbase.

The Trust has been established and will be led initially by an Interim Board comprising nine matchgoing City supporters from a variety of backgrounds, and many with experience across a range of existing fan organisations. Once the Trust is up and running, we will all stand down in order to undertake our first elections.

The Trust will only be as strong as our membership. The actions of the Trust will be determined by what the members want to do, for the benefit of the communities that the Trust serves. That is why we need as many supporters as possible to join, and I know from my 15 or so years on Bluemoon, that there is a wealth of insight and knowledge out there that the fanbase could benefit from.

I hope that you are encouraged by the launch of the Trust, and that some of you would be willing to put your trust in the idea and become founding members.

As an initial offer, membership can be obtained from £5 until 21 April at which point it will revert to £10 per season (discounts are available).

If you want to contribute in any way, or indeed have any further questions, please do get in touch. You can head to our website to find out more, and I have also attached our launch video at the bottom of this message. Please keep an eye out on social media for more information over the coming days.

Nice one Alex. Good luck with the launch. I have signed up. Hopefully thousands more will.

First I’ve heard of this. I might leave it until the off-season until I’ve heard/read a bit more before joining, but having a proper Supporters Trust is something that is long overdue within our fanbase. Hopefully, it can act like the Spirit of Shankley trust at Liverpool which has worked very well for a long time there.

I like the name and the logo, by the way!

I have signed up and donated but still don't understand why our supporters voices on City Matters, Supporters Clubs and 1894 have not been heard enough by our chairman and Execs regarding the issues listed by Henry Winter on X and why another group will make any difference. We need a heavy hitter who has the ear of the chairman to change anything.

Happy to sign up and pay a fiver but not keen on paying by direct debit (largely because I forget I've set one up), which seems to be the only option. Anyone figured out if you can pay by credit card? Am i missing something?
