Trafford as our first-choice goalkeeper?

Interested to know what you think is a solution as Donna has probably got us close to 10+ points that we wouldn't have had last season. The outward play through Ederson is missing and long gone. Trafford has been a liability for half the games he has played for us this season.
No he hasn’t. That sounds like what the media say about Khusanov just because he had a bad five minutes against Chelsea.

Trafford had a bad five minutes against Spurs and people haven’t let him live it down.

Sorry Sam, but this reminds me of the punters saying about Khus, that he had a disastrous start at City. It simply isn’t true. And Traff may have had a nervy start but by and large he’s been great.
I am not dismissing him for one moment, but to suggest he is anywhere near Donnarumma is madness. It is difficult as a keeper because to become better you need to play, but you are never going to play if you don't play. When we had a different dynamic and a mature team we absolutely excelled with Ederson. We haven't had a mature team for 2-3 seasons; Donna has been what we have needed and in contrast to last season, and I suggest is clearly what we need for at least another season. What is Trafford bringing to the party at this point?

Not disagreeing with your point about Donna, just disagreeing with you saying Traff has been a liability for half the season

Our best performances have come with Trafford in net. Surely you can see that?

All these games that some fans are saying Trafford cost us in.....but none have mentioned the games specifically.

He was fine when he played at the start of the season, the defence in front of him wasn't.

Do you think our last 2 performances are attributable to Trafford. I'm not saying did or didn't, just think we'd have done similar with Donnarumma in goal. I think a fully focused and fit team are the main reason.
Its just unfortunate for the keepers that both are top class.
Pep knows that Trafford can be trusted so any loss in form by Donnarumma may see Trafford get an extended run.

I think maybe we’re all taking for granted how much Donnaruma steadied the ship at the back at the start of this season, the difference between him and late Ederson was stark and he’s made a host of fantastic saves.

Did think Trafford was good enough from the start and was disappointed for him when we signed Donna.

Tough one but Donna is the guy for me unless he wants to leave, but many of you here are probably right in that it’s closer most think.

Liability was probably hyperbole by me but it is easy to mask over dangerous moments when we canter to wins in the games he plays in.

This thread would not exist if we lost the league cup final and Salah was arsed when taking that penalty at 4-0 down.

Look at the Save Donarumma made in the 97th minute at Anfield when we were 2-1 up! Would Trafford have made that!

Look at the stats
Donnarumma is 27,
At Club level: he has played 347 games for AC Milan, PSG & City, winning 12 major trophies (Including the treble last season) and has 71 Champions league appearances!
He also has 81 caps for for Italy, is the captain of his country and saved the penalties that won his country the Euros!

James Trafford is 23
At Club level: he has played 165 senior games, 14 of them for City (151 for Accrington Stanley, Bolton and Burnley) has won one major trophy and one Champions league appearance!
He has one cap in a friendly!

Imagine even comparing the two when Pep considers it a no brainer!

This tread reminds me of one wanting us to keep Ortega over Ederson! The same Ederson who is the most successful goalkeeper in English football history! and only took 8 years to do it!

He won 18 trophies in 8 years (including 6 league titles, domestic & European trebles) and still doesent get mentioned above Alison, Chech, Seaman, Vander Sar)

He done it all in 8 years

Very well argued.

Does he consider it a no brainer ,wouldn't know but wouldn't be surprised if he considers it very close.

Not exactly the same thing is it.One a young kid arriving in a foreign land with no English playing in the so called best league in the world for the first time. The other is an established player with experience of the league having gained international honours given a golden chance to progress.
That said I do rate Trafford as do apparently a certain club from North London fighting relegation. It is going to be hard to hold on to him but hopefully we get a good fee from his transfer.

This is his highlights v Brighton earlier in the season, his 3rd match, after a clean sheet at Wolves and then a big mistake v Spurs. I say big mistake, I put it down to building understanding with the players rather than just his fault, but it was a mistake and it cost us, so he could have been nervous before Brighton. He responded well, the Brighton loss was totally in others.

This is what he brings to the party. Saves, calmness, sweeping etc. Donnarumma is ok with his feet but has to take simple options. - usually a ball out wide to a fullback who then gets trapped in by the sideline. Trafford can play through the middle also.
