Most games at 'New' Wembley - Updated stats on Page 4

Following on from a post I made ahead of the Carabao final, I decided to take a proper look at how many times clubs have appeared at 'New' Wembley since it opened in 2007. I thought that we were still just behind Chelsea in terms of the top spot but it turns out that we're now level with them, something that won't change with the upcoming FA Cup semi finals and very possibly the final too.

The top 10 in terms of most appearances at the stadium is as follows. This includes upcoming appearances which are now confirmed.

1= Manchester City 31
1= Chelsea 31
3 Manchester Utd 25
4 Arsenal 17
5 Liverpool 13
6= Aston Villa 8
6= Tottenham 8
8= Crystal Palace 7
8= Portsmouth 7
10= Grimsby 6
10= Southampton 6
10= Sunderland 6

The games I've counted are FA Cup SF, FA Cup final, EFL Cup final, Community Shield, EFL Playoff finals (all divisions), EFL Trophy final, FA Trophy final, FA Vase final, National League Playoff final and Champions League final.

I've not included any games where Tottenham were the home team. Those would artificially elevate Spurs to 59 appearances, guaranteeing them first place for several more years at least.
I am not too much into gloating. I think we should highlight crushing long lasting stats that stand the test of time.

Next season's Charity Shield is at Cardiff - should we qualify to play in it, there is another "lost" Wembley game.
I'm seeing lots of people claiming what a great alternative Cardiff would be in the unlikely event they ever shift the Cup Semis from Wembley.

They'll change their mind if we get to this and they like using the train. It's a shambolic service from Manchester at the best of times, on a Sunday, you can forget it.

Here's the updated list of our appearances.

So since the first visit in 2010, every single consecutive year since, for 15 years, with more than one visit in all but 6 of those years.

That's ridiculous.

It will change if course if one of us makes the final and the other one doesn't :)

Seems incredible that after all those years without a Wembley appearance we're now there virtually every season. The only frustration for me is I'm too old and knackered to travel that far now (and sit for 2+ hours in hard, uncomfortable seats) so ironically I'll probably never get there.

There's a train from Picc to Cardiff every hour including Sundays, but this is nowhere near enough. There might be capacity to increase this south of Crewe but I'm not sure about the Picc to Crewe stretch.
Cardiff is also a bloody stupid idea as there are few road options. M6/M5/M4 or M6/M5/M50 and A roads to Newport then M4.
The FA won't go from 90,000 tickets to 60,000 so that eliminates all English grounds bar the swamp and I doubt they'd stage a semi there if we were involved. Twickenham at 82,000 might be an option but why move the game if it's in London anyway?

Merse, what constitutes a Big Club?

Etihad South" is a frequently used nickname by fans for Wembley Stadium, recognizing Manchester City's frequent trips and success there. As of April 2026, City has made 16 consecutive seasons of appearances at Wembley, often referring to it as their "second home".

Bloody hell Spurs, were they good once?
First team to do the double in the 20th century, first English team to win a European trophy (I think) and their Jimmy Greaves would score all the goals that won us the World Cup. - According to the English media before the tournament.

When Cardiff was used regularly for footy and for Rugby the trains along the "Marshes Line" via Shrewsbury and Hereford were strengthened and extras too. There are other rail options such as Birmingham / Bristol.

I'd like to think TfW would use some of their 5 coach sets out and back for City if we got there, probably won't though!

Sunday would reduce options so they will be sure to play it on a Sunday.

That sums up why the FA Cup semifinals will not be moved away from Wembley despite a few old timers harking back to the days of Villa Park and Hillesborough.

It cost the FA a fortune to purchase and rebuild Wembley so they will use it for every possible match apart from the odd fixture clash for the Community Shield.

Spurs were indeed the first English team to win a European trophy. 1962-63 Cup Winners Cup.

First British team for that matter - worth pointing out as Celtic and Rangers both did well in Europe back in those days.
